About this listen

Once Upon a Crime...

Nancy Hunter and her grandmother Jane Hunter run the Dedley Endings Bookshop, selling crime, thriller and mystery books, in a small, quiet Cotswold village where nothing ever happens...

That is, until the wealthy and reclusive Roth family open up their mansion for the first time in thirty years, inviting the people of Dedley End to a lavish engagement party.

While everyone is thrilled to finally look around the mansion on the hill, the festivities are quickly cut short when beautiful Lucy, recently married to young Harry Roth, is found dead after being pushed over the first-floor balustrade.

But who among the guests could have been capable of her murder – and why?

Nancy and Jane decide to investigate – after all, not only do they own a crime themed bookshop, they were also both named after famous literary detectives – but soon wonder if they've taken on more than they can handle. Especially when it seems the killer has worked out that they're hot on their heels...

Can they catch the murderer before the murderer catches up with them? Or will there be a deadly ending to this story?

Great story!

I have never read a murder mystery before but have loved all of Victoria’s other books and her style of writing so I gave this a go. So glad I did. It was really gripping and I loved listening to it. Really hoping the next one will become available on audible soon!

Great

Murder she wrote meets Agatha Christie! Great fun, worth a listen - not too long but engaging.

Pleasant murder mystery.

Nice un-gruesome murder mystery. Good as a change from chopped up bodies etc!
Wasn't sure if I'd like it, but must have, as I'm now looking for next in the series.

What a fantastic book, great story

It is an absolute joy when you find a good book, and this is one of those books, Victoria Walters is my new favourite author and I am now waiting patiently for the next book which will probably be next year... I have not had the pleasure of hearing Camilla Rockley before and now I want to hear more, she is perfect as the narrator, her performance is wonderful. I love it when you can hear the reader is enjoying the book as they read it. The story is interesting and compelling plus a bit sad. I really enjoyed this I binged it in two days. I am now looking up the next book, Murder at the Summer Fete, not sure when it's available?

A "modern" cosy mystery

I was intrigued by the plot and wanted to know the outcome. Good narrator, overall worth listening to with a good mix of characters .
