About this listen

As wedding bells ring, Walworth is turned upside down by tragic events....

Susie Brown is overjoyed when her brother, Will, turns up unexpectedly on leave from service in time for her wedding to Sammy Adams.

But Will's leave is an extended one due to bad health, and he's unsure whether the army will keep him or whether he'll be able to find a job in the slump of the '20s. To make matters worse, he's at risk of falling in love with the young and personable Annie Ford....

Amidst the joyous wedding preparations, a cloud hangs over Walworth - the mystery of three young girls missing from their homes. A mystery that will culminate, along with Will's personal problems - on the night of the wedding.

On Mother Brown's Doorstep is the fourth in Mary Jane Staples's Adams Family series. Their story continues in A Family Affair.

Such a lovely series of books

I am really enjoying these books. The characters are great, the narration is very good. Easy to follow stories with little laughs along the way.

I’m hooked on these books

I absolutely love all these books. The narrator is fantastic I’ve laughed out loud at some of the exchanges with the delightful Cassie and her “mate” Freddie- utterly priceless. If you’ve known someone who’s from Walworth area- these books (it’s a series) are so for you. If you don’t know anyone- they are still fantastic, light read- with some much deeper touches on life around the Walworth road at that time. Just wonderful.

Brilliant storyline, characters brought to life by Annie Aldington. Masterclass in narration.

I’ve read all stories in this Adam’s family saga. Totally engrossed. Only disappointment was the fact that the killers brother has now been referred to. I could do without the suspense of his appearance!

Absolutely brilliant

I love Mary’s books, but the narrator Annie brings the whole books to life, I could listen to her all day, she’s amazing, looking forward to the next book now, I’ve listened to 3 already 😊

More from cockney london

Dissappointed with this book, I so enjoyed previous ones, it was very slow to get going the end was better and still worth a read, I love Annie Alldington as a narrator but found this time, parts were a bit, for want of a better word annoying, mainly the _'he says she says' bits I've ever noticed it so much before, and could only listen for a short while lots more in the series will try the next one.
