About this listen

Nick Ramsey has a problem. He keeps falling for straight alphas...and they keep disappointing him time and time again. He knows it's a character flaw, but when he checks out his 10-year high school reunion and gets reminded of his favorite schoolboy crush, he can't help but risk his heart all over again.

Deacon Santos knows he's bisexual...he's just not willing to let everyone else know it, too. He's always assumed that he'd end up with a woman by default. But now 30, and with no lover in sight, he's starting to feel the pull of creating a family all his own.

When Deacon offers Nick a place to stay after a nasty break up, they surprise one another by how quickly they fall into a strong friendship - and into bed.

But friends with benefits only works when no one's heart is on the line - and try as he might, Nick can’t stop himself from getting attached. When Nick finds the courage to move out, will Deacon chance the bravery it takes to come out of the closet for the man who steals his breath away?

Carter’s Crossing is a quaint little town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where some people go to get away, others arrive to start over, and plenty just find themselves when they’re lost or brokenhearted. This contemporary mpreg series is for adults only and is sure to leave you believing in the magic of true love and happily-ever-afters! This audiobook and every other audiobook in this stand-alone series can be listened to in any order.

Value you yourself

This is the first in the series that I have listened although I have had the book for some time and I was listening as someone who obtained an advanced listener copy.
The storyline did hold my interest.
I instantly liked Nick, the omega looking for love in all the wrong places but also not willing to put up with second best.
Deacon , Nick's old crush irritated me and he did well to maintain Chris' interest and he was lucky enough to have good friends to challenge some of his idiotic behaviour.
Overall Bill Burrows did a good job but his voice was better suited to the Alphas than the omega's which felt overly camp at times with less differentiation.
I am interested in going back and finding out about the backstory of some of the characters from earlier books in the series.

Friends with Benefits

Nick has always had a huge crush on "straight" Deacon and, at the lowest point in his life, he falls into a "friends with benefits" relationship with Deacon. I enjoyed this well-written story except for one thing: the relationship is often unbalanced. Nick's feelings for Deacon are more real to me than vice versa, and Deacon's reason for failing to commit are flimsy. As a result, I loved Nick and wanted to slap Deacon. Often!

The narration by Bill Burrows is excellent and made the story better than it might have been if I had read the book instead.

Wonderful

I thought this was a wonderful book to listen to as enjoyed that Nick and Deacon reconnected. Then following Deacon’s struggle to not be labelled. The narrator brought the story to life.

The shy omega and the straight alpha...

Nick is down on his luck. When he goes back for a reunion at Carter’s Crossing he meets with his highschool crush. Deacon is straight, vehemently so. But Nick draws him in and suddenly he is not that straight. The struggle for their love is intense since Deac can’t accept who he is. I felt for Nick. He’s so sweet and nerdy but he is a tiger where it matters. I still don’t trust Deac but he came through at the end. Sweet!
