Summary

In her eighth case, amateur detective Libby Sarjeant and her psychic investigator friend Fran Castle are invited to look into a house that is reputedly haunted. For once, Libby can be as nosy as she likes without being accused of getting in the way of a police investigation. However, when they unearth 50-year-old graves in the gardens, the police are bound to cramp their style. Someone alive today doesn’t want them interfering either, and their lives are in danger as they try to unravel the mystery of a ghost who plays Debussy.

Lesley Cookman started writing almost as soon as she could read, and filled many exercise books with pony stories until she was old enough to go out with boys. After following a varied career as a model, air stewardess and disc jockey, she turned to writing short fiction and features for a variety of magazines, before graduating from the University of Wales with an MA in Creative Writing. She has taught writing for both Kent Adult Education and the WEA and edited the first Sexy Shorts collection of short stories from Accent Press in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign. She lives on the Kent coast and has four grown up children and a passion for community theatre. She has written 10 titles in the Libby Sarjeant Murder Mysteries series and has also published How To Write A Pantomime

What the Narrator Says

"Lesley Cookman's Libby Serjeant female sleuth series is a joy to read. I loved Libby and her best friend and psychic investigative partner, Fran. Their constant banter keeps you amused throughout their various crime-solving escapades. I felt as if I was part of the gang in "The Pink Geranium", the local restaurant, popping in to enjoy a few glasses of wine, a nice meal, and more banter with Libby's husband and various other pals, including the proprietors, Peter and Harry. Lesley Cookman draws you into Libby's world, spurring you on to share the next case and the next!" Deryn Edwards, narrator of the Libby Sarjeant Mysteries by Lesley Cookman.

a different narrator

Any additional comments?

it took over an hour for me to get used to deryn Edwards performance of this book. I nearly gave up on it as the speed and accents were totally different than those performed by patience Tomlinson. it was the strength of Lesley cookmans' writing that kept me listening.
libby came across as being sharp and in some cases aggressive which in earlier books is not the case. I have looked at the next book which is narrated by deryn Edwards again and I will carry on listening so that I will know about any new characters that may appear in future books.

Awful interpretation of Libby

Usual enjoyable story from Lesley Cookman spoilt rather by the narrator's interpretation of Libby and Fran's characters.

Great story, let down by appalling narration

I have really enjoyed all of Lesley Cookman’s Libby Sarjeant Murder Mysteries to date & the narrations of the first 6 novels in the series, by Patience Tomlinson & Julia Barrie, were excellent. However, the narration of this volume, by Deryn Edwards, was simply appalling & is by far the worst in my experience of nearly 900 audiobooks on the Audible platform. I strongly recommend reading the novel, as opposed to having to endure Ms Edwards’ narration &, whilst I have already purchased the rest of this audiobook series, will be skipping the next 2 audiobook volumes by the same narrator in favour of acquiring & reading the novels, before returning to the audiobooks when the excellent Ms Tomlinson resumes the narration of volume 11 onwards! Changing the play speed does not have any material positive impact on the truly lamentable performance of another otherwise engaging story in an excellent series.

Change in narrator

After listening and enjoying the previous books in the series, the change in narrator for this book was disappointing. The characters of Libby and Fran changed from bubbly, homely women to ones that sounded like they looked down their noses at everyone.

Interesting story but terrible narrator

Another interesting murder mystery by the excellent Lesley Cookman, entirely spoilt by the terrible interpretation of almost every character by the new narrator,

Why, why, WHY has the narrator been changed? She’s turned Libby into a screechy, whiny character and just about everyone else into a bunch of monotonous, droning bores. Absolutely terrible generic Asian accents and barely any nuance in any character’s speech to indicate emotion of any type.

Patience Tomlinson has done such an excellent job as narrator, bringing the characters to life so for goodness sake bring her back!

dreadful narrator

I have listened to a few of these books and this by far the worst narration. The narrator has a very harsh, unpleasant voice. I couldn't listen past chapter three it was grating so much.
