About this listen
A dead body shattered the calm of the arboretum.
Another murder in small town Cold Creek has tensions rising. Clive Johnson, the groundskeeper at Cold Creek College, is a convenient scapegoat for a police chief when he has the bad luck of finding the body. Although Clive helps the students on scholarship and claims innocence, he’s not helping himself. Convinced Chief Barney Pfeiffe has it all wrong, Sheridan Hendley sets out to help prove Clive's innocence. Her curiosity and questions place her in danger.
It’s soon obvious not everyone is pleased by her enthusiastic search for the truth. More troubling, it’s not clear who she can trust besides her best friend Kim and Detective Brett McMann. As problems escalate, Brett decides it’s time for self-defense training for the women at the college, especially Sheridan.
This is the second of the Cold Creek Cozy mysteries. Join Sheridan and her friends as they reveal the killer and prove Clive’s innocence.

Scapegoat or killer
I enjoyed this small town cosy mystery. This is book two in the series but does work as a standalone, the previous case is mentioned but as the author does give you someone background it isn't necessary to have read to enjoy this book. I like the characters and the small college town feel comes across nicely. The typical stereo types are present such as the rich thinking they can get away with anything and the down trodden gardener, showing the author knows human nature and her characters very well. The characters are well developed and there is a little bit of romance and home life but the author focuses mainly on the mystery and everything happens for a reason. The mystery was well worked and some things seemed obvious, while other clues passed me by. Looking forward to the next book.
When the groundskeeper and a scholarship student find a body, Chief Pfeiffe is quick to jump to conclusions and not upset the more affluent members of the college and arrests the gardener. Professor and psychologist Sheridan Hendley and her friends think he was to quick to judgment, especially as nobody seems to know who the dead man is or why he would be in the arboretum? Tension between the students leads her to provide boxes for students to voice there opinions and when the boxes and then Sheridan herself gets attacked, she knows more is going on n her small college than even she thought. Can they find the killer and stop an innocent man from going to jail?
I liked the narrator. She made the hours fly by and helped capture you up in the story.

Easy listen and cute story
This was a nice easy listen. It is the second in the series but I really don't think you need to read/listen to the first one although you would miss out on the dentist chapters. I was reminded of them when I was listening to this one.
The relationships continue to develop, and it is such an interesting area to learn about. I also liked learning about the college.
I liked the narration it really suited the story

A well told whodunnit
It is nice to see the earlier career of Sheridan and her detective. When a body is found in the college arboretum and the groundskeeper arrested. Sheridan is convinced of his innocence. Her involvement leads to danger, mystery, conspiracy and college politics. The story is well written, involving and excellent, the characters are good and I really enjoyed listening to Alyssa Baumann's narration. I look forward to the next one. I received a complimentary copy from the author and am leaving a honest voluntary review.

Great!
It was great to catch up with Sheridan Hendley once again in this second Cold Creek mystery. A well written story with engaging characters. A young mans body is discovered in the Arboretum connected to the college where Sheridan works and the local police chief focuses on a single suspect who was unfortunate enough to fit the bill for the murderer. Sheridans disbelief in his guilt is enough for her to investigate and discover the truth along with her boyfriend Brett and another police officer. Alyssa Baumann's narration was excellent and helped bring the story to life.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.
