About this listen

Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Wodehouse and a dog of distinction.

It's 1920 and Christmas is coming. Major Lennox finds a body on his doorstep—why on his doorstep? Was it to do with the Countess? Was it about the ruby necklace? Lennox goes to Melrose Court home to his uncle, Lord Melrose, to uncover the mystery. But then the murders begin and it snows and it all becomes very complicated....

Major Heathcliff Lenno, ex WW1 war pilot, 6feet 3inch, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30—named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother—much to his great annoyance. Murder at Melrose Court is the first book in the Lennox series—Book 2, The Black Cat Murders is number 2 in the series. Follow Karen Menuhin for more news.

Very enjoyable

A very well laid out story - well paced and excellently performed. I enjoyed the humour and well disguised red herrings. A fantastic book to take one's mind off covid!

Really Enjoyed This

A real mix of Poirot and Marple but with a style of its own too. Off now to see if there's a book 2.

Christmas Cozy Murder Mystery

An entertaining mystery with a witty sense of dark humour. There was a lovely sense of place in this large British countryside manor with a suspicious cast of characters who all had something to gain by the untimely deaths of their fellow houseguests.
The plot and characters are good and the pace was perfect. I flew through this in two days and enjoyed every minute.
Excellent holiday cosy Murder mystery!

Country House Murder has the Mickey Properly Taken

Warning - do NOT take this seriously. Very nice pish take of the tradishional 'English Country House Murder', English manners and English prejudices of the 1920s. Over the top Butlers, solid peasants who quote poetry in their spare time and blindingly blinkered upper class snobs and twits abound. "Oh I say, who let the bally dog out?" etc (includes obligatory naughty dog).
