About this listen

THE INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON BEHIND THE COSMERE

****

What if the Dark Lord won?

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields.

But now a troublemaker has arrived and there is rumour of revolt. A revolt that depends on a criminal no-one can trust and a young girl who must master Allomancy - the magic that lies in all metals.

good story

I loved the story, however I found that the reader's voice was very clipped which made getting into the story quite tricky and difficult to differentiate between characters on occasion.

I arrived here after completing the Wheel of Time

After his completion of the wheel of time series I fell in love with his writing. To be honest, TWOT series left me with an empty void, a sort of sadness as I said goodbye to characters who had become friends and a story I had lived in for years ver a year.

This book filled that void and I am hooked… a departure from the old but still close enough to soothe my withdrawals.

I really love this series and am looking forward to the new adventure with these incredibly rich characters.

this is really 5!

Okok, understand me correctly please.

This IS 5 stars. The story IS 5 stars. The whole concept and execution IS 5 stars.

The 4 star rating is because I can't see beyond the writing. Yes, Sanderson is magnificently good at writing. What gets to me though is the repetitiveness.

Here's the thing.

All Sanderson books are long, which is awesome because his stories are just so worth it. With long books come endless possibilities, but also a whole ton of risks. In this case, there were words that were used over and over and over again so much so that I once in a while just let out a fairly loud aaarrrgghhhhh!!!! And stopped because I just couldn't listen to another iteration of the same action. With long books I find thus to be very common. You have so much to write that you need to simplify it and so you go for simple words and you get stuck in a certain rythm.

In this particular book, my problems were with a few words, but especially "paused".

Every character, all the time, even if they didn't do anything, weren't about to do anything, they PAUSED. ALL. THE. TIME.

It was just so ridiculous. I'm sorry but I just can't forgive that because it annoyed me so much I had to stop reading this incredibly cool, awesome, giant, intense, adventurous story! Because the repetition got to me! That's just not ok.

I still HIGHLY recommend this book. It goes into my absolute favorites, that's how good the story is.
