About this listen

From Brandon Sanderson—author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive and its fourth massive installment, Rhythm of War—comes a new hefty novella, Dawnshard. Taking place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, this tale (like Edgedancer before it) gives often-overshadowed characters their own chance to shine.

When a ghost ship is discovered, its crew presumed dead after trying to reach the storm-shrouded island Akina, Navani Kholin must send an expedition to make sure the island hasn't fallen into enemy hands. Knights Radiant who fly too near find their Stormlight suddenly drained, so the voyage must be by sea.

Shipowner Rysn Ftori lost the use of her legs but gained the companionship of Chiri-Chiri, a Stormlight-ingesting winged larkin, a species once thought extinct. Now Rysn's pet is ill, and any hope for Chiri-Chiri’s recovery can be found only at the ancestral home of the larkin: Akinah. With the help of Lopen, the formerly one-armed Windrunner, Rysn must accept Navani's quest and sail into the perilous storm from which no one has returned alive. If the crew cannot uncover the secrets of the hidden island city before the wrath of its ancient guardians falls upon them, the fate of Roshar and the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

Another excellent addition

I love these books by Sanderson, he has a very specific way of telling a story that obviously resonates with many people. His Storm light volumes are an excellent read and I would definitely recommend them to anyone especially fantasy lovers

Amazing representation

Rysn's disability was accurately portrayed. Her emotions about it, how people treat her, all of these were surprisingly accurate and I felt a deep kinship with her.
Once again, however, I would like both narrators to learn to better pronounce the word "palanquin" (pal-an-keen). Also I would like a larkin please

Never disappointed

I'd an avid fantasy reader it took me a while to get into Brandon Sanderson's Stromlight archive. In the last 2 years, I have powered through almost all of this series and its associated novellas. Dawnshard did not disappoint, it sheds light on the wider world and lore Sanderson has created and gives depth to some side characters in the main novels. What a joy to get inside the mind of one of my favourite characters, The Lopen. A full-bodied and unique character that at first seems like a fool created for just comedy value. He brings so much to this book and is someone we would all like to have an adventure with.

Sanderson never disappoints

Short, and raises more questions and mysteries than it answers. But you still walk away satisfied and emotional, as you do with most of his books.

Of course, I would not read or listen to this without doing the same with all of his previous work.

Michael Kramer and Kate reading though, their performance is always spot on. Best narrators there is.

Must read.

It might be shorter than the usual Sanderson books. But it was focused on character I was interested to learn more about. And it doesn't disappoint me.

This is a must listen for every Stormlight fan

Can't believe I missed it when it came out. Even though it contains no spoilers for the main saga it deepens your understanding of some characters for example the Loepen. It also seems as Sanderson is using the novellas in the same way as the interludes to introduce characters (that I suspect will become the main cast in the latter half of the series) and to connect us to the whole Cosemere world not just Roshar

Great side quest

Great book, like a side quest to the main saga which I’m sure will mean more later in the series
