Summary
A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account.
Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps. With unique breadth of insight she goes behind the scenes, speaking to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unexpected royal story since the Abdication.
She highlights the dilemmas involved and the issues that lurk beneath the surface, as to why the couple decided to step down as senior royals. She analyses the implications of the actions of a young and ambitious couple in love with each other and with the empowering lure of fame and fortune.
She leads the listener through the maze of contradictions, revealing how Californian culture has influenced the couple's conduct. She exposes how they tried and failed to change the royal system by adapting it to their own needs and ambitions and, upon failing, how they decided to create a new system altogether.

BRILLIANT BOOK
A thoughtful and candid view of Harry & Meghan, Charmingly written without the gossipy, gushing text which appears in a lot of biographies written by other authors.
Lady C brings balance to the story from both perspectives and her prose is wonderful,
Delighted.

An attempt at fairness
On the whole this is an attempt to fairly assess the Harry and Meghan story, and I believe it correctly reports behind the scene opinions from numerous sources which paints a less than flattering picture of the pair. Where it falls down is a lot of repetition and some chapters where interpretation is skewed by some frankly out dated attitudes, for instance on the subject of Meghan continually caressing her baby bump Lady C put down the negative reaction to a national sense of modesty about pregnant women, where actually I think most people just thought it was attention seeking and smug. But otherwise quite an interesting book which made some pertinent observations.

Ok
If you're a fan of this pair you will hate this book. I'm not a fan and found it an easy, gossipy listen. Bits of it grated on my nerves , mainly the stuff about Meghans clothing which I thought was irrelevant and unnecessary and incredibly snooty. Neither of them comes out of it well but I think it mainly confirmed what I suspected they were like. A pushy American and a needy sap.

Such an incredible insight
Since the story of Meghan and Harry is still unfolding (July 2023) I thought this book might be so far out of date as to be a waste of time, but I think it actually makes it more fascinating to see how right LadyC has been all along. Loved it!

Review
Well written and well read. The book is a mixture of fact, gossip and opinion but it blends all three very well. In some ways this is a sad book as there was such promise and missed opportunity for the future royal family when Megan joined. The Queen is famed for putting duty before self, something sadly now lacking in these two as they pursue commercial interests and fame. I find it hard to understand why they need financial independence when collectively they already have more money and privilege than most people can imagine. As an aside there is also a fascinating insight into the author and a new found respect for her life journey too. A good book and well worth a listen.
