An absolute pleasure from start to finish

Listening to Michael MacIntyre's autobiography as an audio book is by far and away the best way to enjoy his life story. His voice is so wonderfully engaging that I found myself smiling just listening to the subtle laughter in his speech, and he has the most wonderful ability to mimic the various voices from his past, which he uses to the full. Everytime I heard the grandmother's 'Hello Darling' in her Hungarian accent I started to smile, and his version of a pseudo-Jackie Mason when he was doing his Jewish accent is worthy of a BAFTA.
This is the sort of book that can embarrass the reader if listening on a train or bus as explosions of laughter will erupt without warning. I had a quiet spot at work and listened to the chapter about his mother adopting other people's accents and had to pretend I had a choking fit when his mother went into the shop run by a Rasterfarian.
It is also deeply touching, and the section about his father's death had me in tears. Altogether a masterpiece of comedic writing and as in the title, an absolute pleasure from start to finish.

Funny man

Very funny and insightful book which will have you smirking trying not to laugh in public when you listen to it. Read in a similar manner to his stand up performances, his cheerful enjoyment in telling the stories is apparent throughout. I listened to number of passages twice as they amused me so much and may come back and listen to the whole thing again.

Fantastic and wonderfully read by a very truthful and inspiring comedian

Thank you for sharing your story - the highs and lows are wonderfully entertaining but it’s lovely most of all to share in his raw experience of life. Fantastically read by the man himself I would thoroughly recommend this as an inspiring, funny, moving audio book for holiday or anytime. Getting book two right now! Thank you for sharing - you really are one in a million 💕 I’m a fan since I saw you at De Montfort Hall recently - I was crying with laughter ! 👏

I laughed and cried during this book.

I loved it. Always interesting and frequently funny with surprising poignant pieces within. I have just finished it and immediately sought out Michael's performance on the Royal Variety Performance that launched his career. Well done sir!

funny and interesting

the story is told in such a way that you're never quite sure what will happen next. I never realised just how difficult it was to make the journey between funny person and star comedian. Just the right mix between funny, light and at times poignant. I was sad too come to the end.

Loved it, an incredibly entertaining audiobook

Anyone who is a fan of Michael will love this. He tells his life story with the same energy of his stand ups, and doesn't at all feel like he's just reading his book aloud. Funny and touching, well worth the investment, I wish there could be a second book.
