Summary
A new novella in the charming Baby Ganesh Agency series.
In a symbolic journey of reconciliation, the Monsoon Express is travelling between hostile neighbours India and Pakistan. The passenger list includes politicians, celebrities, former Mumbai policeman Inspector Chopra and his baby elephant ward, Ganesha.
Then a senior diplomat is found murdered in his cabin. Accusations fly, tensions rise and an international incident seems certain. But is the murder political - or personal?
Tasked to investigate, Chopra has just hours before the train reaches its destination and the news goes public. He must unmask the killer quickly if he's to stop the last journey of the Monsoon Express going entirely off the rails....

Last Victim of the Monsoon Express
I have loved all of the baby Ganesh books and this one was no exception.
The atmosphere the author creates with an excellent narrator of course is just lovely!
You feel safe (in spite of there having been a murder!) and as though you are really there.
A bit of the history of India too! what's not to like? only another couple of hours maybe?!

Enjoyable short Chopra story- still don’t like narrator
I’m a huge fan of the Inspector Chopra novels - they provide a lovely light relief between my usually heavier historical and supernatural reads and while I can’t say I look for cosy crime I do always buy Vaseem Khan’s books when they are released.
My criticism here is the change from Sartaj Garewal to Madhav Sharma - AGAIN!!!
Madhav has a lovely narration voice please don’t misunderstand me, but it’s beyond cringey when he attempts American accents (which have appeared in the novels he has narrated!) and it sets me edge hearing it. In addition, Chopra is only in his 40’s and Madhav seems to make him sound like a man far far older. Sartaj was a wonderful narrator and as I have read as well as listened to these books he makes me feel as if he really embodies the characters.
Please please - for future reads - save Madhav for the older characters and bring back Sartaj
