About this listen
Following the death of her bullying husband, Etta Bancroft's selfish children move her to a village in the Cotswolds. One night, she discovers a filly, left to die in the snow. With help, Etta rescues the horse, and she and her friends form a syndicate to pay for her upkeep. As the horse recovers, she begins to show racing pedigree, so the syndicate enters her into a maiden hurdle - and are shocked at the result.

Jilly Cooper all over!
It's like coming home and pulling on your pj's and most comfy slippers! All the old favourites with new ones to fall in in love with! Great plot twist at the end but a wee bit predictable in parts.

Another excellent Jilly Cooper yarn!
Excellent Jilly Cooper book, great being unabridged as you get to know the characters. Superb narration once again. If you like Jilly Cooper books, you'll not be disappointed with this. Can't wait for her other books to be released unabridged!

what happened to the word 'chapter '?
Great book, just a shame the word 'chapter' has been missed on every chapter, so off putting having just a random number spoken in the middle of the script.

I'd forgotten Jilly Cooper could be such fun
As usual a bit over the top but a good story well told with reference to characters I vaguely remember from earlier books

Go Mrs Wilkinson!!!
It drives my sister nuts when I read/listen to books out of order, and having only been able to find the first Jilly Cooper here (Riders), I gather I've missed a lot of background; however, I thoroughly enjoyed this and didn't feel like I missed out on a good story.
Eta has a philandering husband and two awful children, when the husband dies, the kids soon nab all the best antiques, and sell off the house, making Eta a glorified nanny to the nightmare grandkids. Eta finds a badly abused horse and fearing her son will make her put her down, nurses her back to health with the help of a few local pals.
I loved the sense of community in this book as everyone from the pub/school/stables etc pitched in to help the horse, Mrs Wilkinson, get better. As usual with J Cooper, there was a lot of bonking going on with various couples, and you will find it difficult not to shout out at Eta's son for treating her with such contempt. Great book.

Hard going but likeable characters (mostly)
Where does Jump! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Bottom quarter
If you’ve listened to books by Jilly Cooper before, how does this one compare?
The worst one
What about Gerri Halligan’s performance did you like?
Yes, it was good narration which helped me keep going with the book.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did get very angry with Ettas children to the point it almost stopped me listening because I didn't want to hear about them. Thankfully they play only a small part in the plot.
Any additional comments?
It is a long book.
Ordinarily I become obsessed with books, take the long route to a destination, join a traffic jam just so I have a valid excuse to do nothing but listen to the book. I like long books as I like to get value for money!
This book marks the first time that I haven't done this. It took me about 6 months to get through it.
It is easy to listen to, but not gripping. The characters are not strongn but they are likeable; like extended families, you have fun when you see them but are not too fussed if one year fades into the next between visit. I sometimes had pangs to see how they were getting on and would listen for a few hours, over a few days but then nothing for weeks.
I guess there are better things to spend your money on but it wouldn't be a waste if you purchased this!
