Summary
The Thieves Guild is renowned for their ability to steal anything. Its elite members have robbed nobles of wealth, reputation, and even their honor. The Guildmaster rules them with brutality and fear, yet his name and past are a mystery. From the depths of the Evermist swamp, he seeks a master thief, one who can help him reclaim his lost power.
Young and brash, Jack Myst has drawn the Guildmaster's attention. His feats mark his potential, but his audacity and cunning make him dangerous. After years of preparation, an invitation from the guild is exactly what he desires. When he gets it, his hunt begins, and there is nothing he cannot steal.
Even the Guildmaster's secret.

Outstanding listen.
This audio book was an outstanding listen. I can not wait until the rest of the trilogy is released. Ben Hale is fast becoming my number one author. I really hope there are many more books in the future.another strong narration by Derick Perkins. If you want a good book to loose your self in then give this a try you wont be disappointed.

9/10
very good, nice humor and voice acting. Nice story. sometimes I get alittle lost when they describe the places around then in the action. I feels like the author knows what the place looks like but we just get og yeah there also were like 10 massive bridge's here and the my entire view of the place changes. Still the is my only complaint the book is rly good can't wait to hear the rest

What a shame
Unfortunately I came to this book after searching for something that might help fill the hole left after I finished Patrick Rothfuss.
I'm afraid this simply isn't in the same league.
The characters are cliched and 2-dimensional. The story is, well, boring (sorry). I gave up about half way through when I realised I simply didn't care about the characters or what was happening.
The narration is excellent though.

Generic and unremarkable
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Gods no!
I hate being critical of someone else's hard work, and to be fair the writing isn't terrible, if this is a first attempt at a novel by a young adult writer then I'd say it shows promise.
However.
The story it'self is clunky, the characters two dimensional and ham-fistedly presented, the world building nearly non-existent, the magic system unexplained and uninteresting and the imagery honestly felt as though it was drawn straight from a bad computer game or a dodgy kids cartoon.
Has Jack of Thieves put you off other books in this genre?
It serves as a salutary lesson in being skeptical of any book with a 5 star rating, but I've read plenty of other equally pulpy sci-fi / fantasy novels.
What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?
A great performance, clear and with consistent characterisation, can't ask for more in a narrator.
Did Jack of Thieves inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me to find something more enjoyable to listen to and to write this review.. so yes, yes it did.
Any additional comments?
Ben, do yourself a favor and read "The Anatomy of Story" before plotting your next book.
