Summary

An ancient evil. A treacherous king. A mystery going back to the fall of the gods.

In the heart of Vandar, as dark forces close in, Elyon, a gifted Bladeborn knight, fights for his family's survival in a world on the brink of war. In the beleaguered northlands of Tukor, a servant girl with a mysterious past is forced on the run by a treacherous lord, propelling her on a journey that will change her world forever. From the Shadowfort, an ancient power is unleashed, one that will set into motion a series of events that will bring the world to its knees.

With the world on the verge of chaos and countless lives at stake, a new First Blade must be selected, but obstacles stand in the way. Alliances are broken. Enemies are born. Only the strong will survive.

Follow this epic tale where the battle for land, power, and the divine gifts of the Fallen Gods will shape the fates of all.

Slow at first

It seemed a bit slow at first, as there are so many characters with stories, really enjoyed it and then it ended! Look forward to the next.

Gripping story

I really enjoyed this book. Well narrated, good characters that you could get behind and the story moved at an excellent pace. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.

a bit long winded

decent enough storyline. very standard fare but some of it seemed a little unnecessary at times. but it was by no means awful. enjoyed it well enough and will try the next one. just sometimes wanting to write an epic and it turning out epic are two different things.

Couldn’t put down

Was not sure to begin with as the story was slow to start, but very soon I was completely hooked and could not stop listening. It is well narrated and I can’t wait to get into the next three books.

Has really good potential.

It's a slow start, hard to connect the dots on what's going on for a while but it reeled me in about chapter 3 or 5.

Will I'd listen it again, probably, that could affect the score. also btw it's 24 hours not 28hours a little bit off.

Good story and narration.

Good story and you need to be semi-focused to ensure you get the most out of the characters.

Entertaining read

slow start, but with a promise to improve, it was a slow build up to what turned out to be intriguing tale, I did have some apprehension with how quickly the elder brother lost his way, over a foolish first loves childish praises being bestowed on him.
Aside from that, the story was well delivered and kept me enhanced towards the next chapter. I will happily buy book 2 when it comes out.

I am finding this a slog

I am half way through and I don't think I have it in me to continue. It honestly has some cool ideas and concepts for a fantasy novel but it just feels waaaaaaaay too drawn out. I wouldn't mind the slow pace if the dialogue was better, but it is very dry and unengaging too.

The narrator is poor too. The kind of guy that would be better reading out medical text books rather than fantasy novels. He has no variation of tone, delivery or accents. Every single character sounds the same and it gets hard to keep track of who is who or why you should care.
