About this listen
A war hero gone rogue. The Frontier worlds threatened. Only one man can protect them.
Hard times make for strong men, and Antonin Murdock’s childhood was as rough as it gets. Now, he’s a Ranger, the only law for colonists seeking their fortune far from home.
Murdock’s investigation into a missing freighter takes him to Coracaesium, a world he discovers has been turned into a stronghold by brutal pirate forces. They are more organized than anything he’s seen before, equipped with advanced weaponry, and led by a tactical and strategic genius.
Sanya Baretto.
She was once one of the Fleet’s elite fighter pilots, holding the line against a ruthless alien enemy. Until the Commonwealth gave her reason to turn against it.
In her cold fury, Baretto may manage something even the entire might of the Tahni Empire couldn’t.
The destruction of the Commonwealth.
Don’t miss the start of this new military sci-fi epic from the best-selling duo of Rick Partlow and Ralph Kern. Two legends in the genre bring you a new story filled with pulse-pounding action, realistic battles, and a soldier you can’t help but root for.

On par with Droptrooper
Different enough to not be a rehash of Droptrooper, Kern injects life into Partlow's format with a healthy dose of frontline police perspective rather than pure military. A clever and fun sci-fi adventure in Partlow's vision of space travel, which doesn't rely on 'aliens' being the existential threat - this is more subtle as it focuses on terrorism and propaganda. The result is a main character, Murdock, who is a likeable 'shieff' just on the side of smart without being unbelievably intelligent. The story beats are as expected from a comfortable hero vs. villain piece, but has some very good twists and reveals during the story. Performance was excellent, a lot of very good accents for characters used and the expression and emphasis was all in the right place. Looking forward to the next installment from this quite explosive beginning.

Great storytelling
Science fiction is not my preferred genre but I thought I would give this a try as Ralph Kern’s Locus series is outstanding.
This book delivers the same fast paced and well researched action as Kern’s previous work. It’s worthy of its five star review, great characters and I’ll definitely be buying the next in the series.
