Hilarious and devastating
Jennette tells her story with such humour and candour. I literally couldn’t stop listening till it was done and I didn’t want it to end. One of the best books in years. I can’t recommend it enough.

Suggested listening speed x0.85
Engaging account of her life. Obviously she’s the heroine in her own story, always the smartest and kindest in the room but even so there is a really open and raw approach that lays bare her trauma and her own naivety. She reads very fast and I usually speed up audibles but this one I slowed and it made it a much better listen. X0.85 speed recommended.

Fantastic audiobook - sometimes hard to follow
The reason why I wanted to write a review was to inform potential buyers that sometimes Jennette's way of talking can be fast and quiet, and I had to rewind a couple of times. Her narration is fairly monotone, but that's probably because she's narrating her own voice. When she voices other people, she acts their voice very well and it's clear that it's a different person talking which I appreciated. But audiobooks are hard to follow sometimes and I missed or couldn't hear a lot of words.
Which is why I always prefer an established narrator to do audiobooks, but I did enjoy listening to this one. It's very rare I don't mind the author narrating their own book, even if it was a challenge sometimes.
I enjoyed the actual book itself and I would recommend.

More than a memoir. It is gift to humanity.
A memoir this honest and naked is a rare find.
Herein lies the profound power of the book.
There is so much to feed off this very human journey. She has managed a miraculous achievement by touching a million lives with her life.

Best read (listen) in a very long time
This book is beautifull! The language is perfect and you feel with the author all the way through the book. And she reads it so well.
I cried, cringed, laughed and smiled with her the entire time. Thank you for this book.

couldn't stop reading I finished in one day, a sad but really interesting and empathetic read. An interesting insight to Jenny's life and how she came out the other side of her traumas with strength.

Jennette earns the title
The beautiful construction of Jennette's story telling spun out such a clear and cohesive arc. We could see her unpicking the lies, sercrecy, and manipulation that were the tapestry of her life, to leave a clear thread from beginning to end.
Considering the content of the book Jennette did not have to earn the title, but nevertheless she did. The writing used tone artfully, capturing moments in time, enhanced by her performance.
Truly, I felt privileged to hear Jennette tell her story in her own voice. Choosing to leave in the touches of intense emotional fragility was a gift that she did not have to share with us, but the telling was enhanced by it. I'm grateful to her.
Irony is a strong part of this book, particularly in the strong juxtaposition between the public view of "Sam" against the reality of life as Jennette. There is a further irony in that, having had one view of herself forcibly shared, Jennette is forced to share far more in this work to truly be seen.
I deeply hope that in future works Jennette is given the space to use her wonderful style to tell stories which are not so intimately personal. Not only for the freedom of the author, but also for all of us to enjoy the breadth of her talent which is clearly there.
