Summary

The number-one New York Times best seller

Includes six new songs by Jessica Simpson, available exclusively in the Open Book audiobook. Performed by the author featuring her music throughout.

Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age 15, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie.

Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her listeners if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first.

Now, America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality TV pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites listeners on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before.

First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her audiobook shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture clichés - "chicken or fish", "Daisy Duke", "football jinx", "mom jeans", "sexual napalm..." and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

Includes the songs "Heartbeat", "Practice What You Preach", "Sweet Temptation", "Your Fool" (featuring Willie Nelson), "Party of One", and "Free Will" by Jessica Simpson.

Open and honest book

This was my first audible book, I really enjoyed it. Very open and honest, gives you a look inside Jessica’s life and the battles she faced. Well read and well written

Heartfelt and Honest

I really enjoyed this book. Jessica was very open (as the title implies). Her story is so much more than what you'd think. I've always liked Jessica's music, but this has also given me a lot of respect for her and how much she's fought for what she wants out of life.

Like talking to your best friend

I loved this book immediately. I liked Jessica Simpson growing up but wouldn't class myself as a fan - I am now! I loved her honesty and the way you could hear the emotion in her voice. Her life has been a rollercoaster and its amazing she came through it all. I was routing for her throughout and recognised myself in so many ways. I was genuinely sad when the book finished, I felt lonely without her voice in my ear as I cleaned the house or drove to work. Wonderful listen

moved to tears...

Wow, such a talented lady... this book is so well written and suprisingly honest, made all the better having been read by Jessica Simpson herself. Listening to her life story as though you were reading her diary, you feel her pain and cry... her open love for God is so evident, which seems unexpected given her fame and fortune. Thank you Jessica for being you X

A good listen but not sure why she did the book

I have always been a huge fan. But this book really made me see how little she knows about the real world, victim, and generally how little awareness she has for her privilege. She sounds like she’s going to cry majority of the book, over things that aren’t that major (vs us common folk)

The crying over being “finally able to have my own home”… for $5.6m on the spot, at 24 years old…

Wish her all the best, but her lack of awareness was quite shocking..

Interesting and emotional

There were things I knew but I'm not a big follower of celeb news, so there was also a lot I didn't know. That others also have things to deal with does help me know it's ok.

Very candid

I was keen on listening to it after being targeted with all her book tour. This didn’t fall short of expectations. She’s so candid, and genuine. It’s good to know that an artist of her calibre is almost as grounded as regular people. I’m sure many pop stars from her generation can’t write a book like this. It really made me appreciate her so much more. Enjoy reading it!
