Summary

Meredith is keeping secrets from Hodge which can only lead to trouble and raise questions as to whether their relationship can survive. Patsy Hodge takes her first major case as a private investigator. She needs to find out if a successful business woman was raped by a colleague.

Both cases need to be solved before Meredith and Hodge join the murder victims.

Love this series

This is the second book from the series that I have listened to so far. Again this book kept me hooked right from the start lots of twists to the story line that keep you guessing and wanting more. The narrator is fantastic he plays ever part spot on plus I could listen to him all day.

very good

I'm really enjoying this series. I feel I know Hodge and Meredith a lot better as they are now a proper couple. The mystery was good and it held my interest all the way through.
I'm looking forward to listening to the next book.

2nd book in the Series

I enjoyed this 2nd book better than the first. I think this is because I’m getting to know the characters and all their little foibles. Meredith and Patsy are full of character and temperament, just wish they didn’t spend so much time smoking!
I think Lee Beddow is an excellent narrator though I would like it if he read just a fraction more slowly.
Now looking forward to the next in the series

The best proposal I never heard.

With D.I.Meredith.And Patsie Hodge now officially a cohabiting item, one of them had to give up their p!ace in the Bristol police criminal depatment- and it wasn't going to be Meredith. To his initial horror, Hodge makes a sideways move into the privatesector, to join Chris and Sharon's successful P.I. company as a partner. There's a new boy in the team, too, young, red haired, fast tracker Louis Trump who just happens to call the Super 'Uncle David'. There will be murders to solve and an unpleasant character to route out: but first they must deal with Patsie's stalker.

This is the second in theRewith and Hodge mystery series although it can be read easily as a stand alone. The real pleasure of these books, and this is no exception is the marvellous and realistic interplay of the ongoing relationship between the two principal protagonists, sometimes fighting with each other as they continue to fight crime in this excellent British police procedural. And it is not just the lead characters who are given a realistic life story, in varying degrees all emerge as far greater than mere paper cut outs. This is further enhanced by the narratkr, Led Bedow, whose down to earth E blush voice breathes life into them all, with individual voicingS for the numerous personalities, and mostly with good accents. A fine, low key performance which lets the writing itself shine.

I am very beholden to the rights holder of Ill Conceived, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. As with book one, I really enjoyed this story set in Bristol, England although the action could take place I many large towns of cities. A clever 'slice of life's which brings great characterisation and dialogue, crime and who-dun-it?, together with thrills, the odd tear, romance and humour. Great fun. A good read. Recommended.

Another great book in the series.

I love the development of the the characters through the books, but even as a one off the story it wonderful. Full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing all the way.

Brilliant

This second book in the Meredith and Hodge series is brilliant, I was a little surprised to find that Meredith and Patsy had gone their seperate ways after meeting them in book 1 but it is a natural progression with what is developing relationship wise. 2 different investigations, his a series of murders and hers a paternity hunt but are the cases linked? Highly recommended with Lee Beddows working his magic with the narration once again.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.... Now how long canI hold off before starting book 3....

Badly let down by narration

I was dubious about listening to the second book in this series but, by the end of the first book, I got a bit hooked and decided to go for it. However, although I like the characters in these books, some of the dialogue in this one was quite clichéd (almost cringe worthy at times). Also, the narration is really off-putting. I thought I'd be used to it, having listened to the first book, but it really did spoil the second book for me. It's quite monotone throughout. For me, a good narrator is so important and, although I'd quite like to listen to more about Meredith and Hodge, I doubt I will.

Loved It!

I have read other books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them but to listen and hear the characters come to life was excellent! There are many twists and turns that keep you listening and wanting to hear more. I guess there are two stories here, the relationships between the main characters and also the plot. Although one reaches a conclusion, the other leaves you more than keen to listen to the next book! Narration is a huge part of an audio book and Lee does an excellent job.
