Summary

Deputy Mattie Cobb is in a dark place and has withdrawn from Cole Walker and his family to work on issues from her past. When she and her K-9 partner, Robo, get called to track a missing junior high student, they find the girl dead on Smoker's Hill behind the high school, and Mattie must head to the Walker home to break the bad news. But that's only the start of trouble in Timber Creek because soon another girl goes missing - and this time it's one of Cole's daughters.

Knowing that each hour a child remains missing lessens the probability of finding her alive, Mattie and Robo lead the hunt while Cole and community volunteers join in to search everywhere, but to no avail. It seems that someone has snatched all trace of the Walker girl from their midst, including her scent. Grasping at straws, Mattie and Robo follow a phoned-in tip into the dense forest, where they hope to find a trace of the girl's scent and to rescue her alive. But when Robo does catch her scent, it leads them to information that challenges everything they thought they knew about the case.

Mattie and Robo must rush to hunt down the kidnapper before they're too late in Hunting Hour, the third installment in critically acclaimed author Margaret Mizushima's exhilarating mystery series.

Great addition to the series

I am currently binging the series so the character and the relationships are very familiar - I think I would struggle going in not at the beginning so I would read/listen to them in order. All three dogs are great.

This went in a very different direction and opened up some social commentary. Really cant say anything more due to spoilers.

Very used to the narration style now.

Edge of your seat again

What I love about this author is the way she keeps you on your toes and throws out so many twists you can’t wait for the end to find you were wrong and it was somebody else entirely. Can’t wait for the next book

Same review

Entertaining, listen, and a good series, but at times, I just wanted to shake the lead character.

steady

The characters are developing slowly and there's a feeling that the stereotyping of them is overdone. The main characters inability to talk about feeling and self doubt is annoying as their immaturity does not fit with their work lives. The series is enjoyable but not a must listen.

You can stop hunting for a good book

I enjoyed this book. This is quickly becoming A must read or listen too series for me. The author has created some special characters, ones that over the course of the series I have come to care about, so when goes missing it turns into a nail biting listen. Robo is everybody's dream dog and it is entertaining to join him on his search for the missing child. The story is well written to hold the listeners attention throughout. The first half is all about questioning suspects over the death of a little girl, giving you plenty of suspects. Then things get serious and it's all about searching and tracking using the dogs. There is a little bit of home life drama as things get personal in more ways than one. I can't wait to start the next book to see where the author takes the series next.
Deputy Mattie Cobb as her K9 companion gets called in when junior high girl goes missing. With Robo on the job her dead body is quickly discovered and Mattie is drawn into a murder investigation that makes things personal. Mattie suspects the father but is she letting her personal feeling get in the way? A frantic call from the local vet has Robo and Mattie out searching the streets again. This time Mattie is wishing for a better out come, as she is close to the young girl who never returned from school. Robo can only track so far when it appears she was taken. It's up to Mattie and the rest of the police department who workout how might have taken her before she to ends up dead.
I like the narrator. She has a pleasant voice to listen too and the story just flies by.

A touching story of murder by accident

It's exciting and keeps one listening way into the nights some terrifying moments till the conclusion and somehow sad that the murderer is mentally living in the past, bu thats my view.

Excellent Read

I have just finished the 3rd book in this series by Margaret Mizushima,
I love how the characters remain the same in each book. I feel I know them all especially Maddie Cob. I also enjoy the subtle twists throughout the book. Think I’m ready for book 4….
