About this listen

Secret societies, serial killers, and a seriously snarky PI.

When Ginger Mitchell finds out her mother committed suicide, she packs up her life as a Vegas "dancer" (hey, somebody's gotta do it) and drives her cherry-red SUV straight home to Portland. Without a disapproving mom to rebel against, what was the point?

When she arrives back in her hometown, she finds a lot more going on than fancy food trucks and put-a-bird-on-it hipsters.

Murders are being passed off as suicides. College-aged women keep going missing. And then there's the troubling spate of mobsters who keep inviting her out to eat.

With a pile of cash saved from her last job and no one around to tell her not to, Ginger decides to become a private investigator, to find out exactly what's gone wrong in the City of Roses. First up: Her mother's "suicide."

Includes the first six novellas in the Roseland series, Home Is Where the Start Is, The Ruth Is Out There, The Body in the Pool, Amber Alert, Jane Dead, Welcome to Roseland.

Excellent!

A great listen! Would definitely recommend to listeners of crime/mystery.
Ginger is definitely a likeable protagonist with her rather relaxed attitude to her cases. It’s certainly been a wild couple of weeks, beginning with leaving her ‘old life’ to overnight after the news of her mothers death, her private detective cases jump from collage high jinks to top tier criminal organisations in the blink of an eye!
Rhino also the perfect side kick, and also doesn’t seem at all phased by Gingers demands and madness!
I also think the supernatural element adds an extra dimension to the story.
Narration is excellent, with all the characters clearly recognisable by voice. I do see how the he said/she said might be annoying to some listeners, but it didn’t really bother me too much.
The story was pacy and kept momentum throughout, I will definitely be downloading the next in the series!
5 stars all round!

Brilliant 🤩

An excellent book. Loved the story lines, loved the characters, they are well drawn and believable. Good banter and lovely humour.

The performance was first class and so well written that it seemed to fly by. Even the apparition made sense somehow.

Love the gang.

Loved the synopsis, so gave it a go, oh how glad I did. Well, apart from now looking at buying extra credits so I can get the next 2 books lol, not sure if I can wait until next credit day, thanks Mr Ugland!
I binge listened to this in one and a half days. Love Ginger, her worldly whit but at the same time, almost naive outlook at her plans and to danger, are to me believable, and her group of roped in help are brilliant (everyone needs a Rhino in their lives 🤣, listen and you'll understand.) Also for once, I loved everything, the narrator, the storylines, just everything, to the point of shouting out alound "NO, DON'T YOU DARE...NO!!" when it finished. Thanks Audible for giving me another author and characters to fall in love with.

Humorous mystery

A tad silly but there is fun and suspense. A touch of the supernatural, which I don’t usually enjoy, but most parts of the story were not truly affected by that.
