Summary

A Kirkus Reviews 2019 Best Romance Novel, the first in an exciting new series by USA Today best seller Kerrigan Byrne!

These men are dark, bold, and brave. And there is only one woman who can bring them to their knees....

Famed and brilliant, Lady Alexandra Lane has always known how to look out for to herself. But nobody would ever expect that she has darkness in her past - one that she pays a blackmailer to keep buried. Now, with her family nearing bankruptcy, Alexandra strikes upon a solution: Get married to one of the empire’s most wealthy eligible bachelors. Even if he does have the reputation of a devil.

Love takes no prisoners

Piers Gedrick Atherton, the Duke of Redmayne, is seeking revenge and the first step is securing a bride. Winning a lady’s hand is not so easy, however, for a man known as the Terror of Torcliff. Then, Alexandra enters his life like a bolt of lightning. When she proposes marriage, Piers knows that, like him, trouble haunts her footsteps. But her gentleness, sharp wit, independent nature, and incredible beauty awakens every fierce desire within him. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe in his arms.

“Romantic, lush, and suspenseful.” (New York Times best-selling author Suzanne Enoch)

Good story

This was a great read/listen! We all know romances have happy endings, but there was a time when I really wasn’t sure how it was possible.

These books seem to start with horrific back stories, so beware the trigger warning for rape in the prologue. This book can be a bit dark as a result, but it’s an interesting, thought-provoking change from the lighthearted books you usually find in this genre.

I’m glad I listened to this instead of reading it because, as always, Derek Perkins makes everything sound amazing.

Wow and more wow!

The book grabbed me from the first page and I couldn't put it down. If you loved The Victorian Rebels  series, you'll love this too! I can't recommend it highly enough!  5*

I was worried that I had overdosed on KB as I really didn't like her second book from  the Goode Girl series but I am delighted to say that she has not disappointed me at all.

KB always draws her heroes so beautifully and Piers is no exception. Although the typical Alpha, he has been scarred both mentally and physically but there is  a touching vulnerability and warmth about him, which is so endearing.

I love how Piers, the Duke of Redmayne, meets Dr Alexandra Lane, a geogologist and very much a woman with her own mind, on the train platform with an out of control stallion.

Alexandra has a past which has tortured and traumatised her for 10 years which she tries to hide but finds herself blackmailed and is slowly running out of money.

Having been sent for by one of her dear friends to Scotland to attend a very unexpected wedding, she comes upon a way of solving all her problems and saving her friends.

This is the heartwarming story of how these two characters find and heal each other through all the secrets, distrust and danger that threaten them both and I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens to Cecilia!

Derek Perkins was perfect as ever!

An Absolutely Awesome Read !!!

This is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. It was brilliant, romantic, and absolutely exciting. It had the right amount of splendid humour that tickled me to the point of bursting out in laughter a few times. I found that I couldn’t wait to find out what happened at the end almost as much as I didn’t want it to end. The suspense was really good.

The characters were lovable and well developed. The hero was every woman’s dream man, while you couldn’t help but love the heroine as well as her two best friends.

The story was exceptionally well written with a superb display of artistic description and historical revelations that I found quite interesting.

Last, but not least, the narrator did an awesome job; best narrator so far. He read so well, with the right amount of inflection and charisma that I was totally sucked into the story. Despite his sexy masculine voice, he still managed to do an impressive job with the female voices.

I didn’t want to reveal anything that would be a spoiler to any reader considering buying this audio book. However, please know that this book delivered in every way for me, and I would seriously recommend it.

This is my first time reading a book by Kerrigan Byrne, and it will certainly not be the last, as long as she continues to deliver as well as she has with this one. The voice of Derek Perkins will be a much anticipated, appreciated and generous bonus ;)

Skipped a few chapters!

An ok book. However, the internal monologue of the main characters are lengthy, suicide inducing and insufferable! I will not be reading anymore. Once you have read J. Garwood, something like this is extremely paltry.

Absolutely brilliant

I loved every second of it. I couldn't stop listening. Really nice and steamy. The narrator Derek Perkins is brilliant I love his voice for the hero, it's so sexy. Now on to the next one, book 2, Cecelia's story.
