What happened to Frankie?
Hanging House: An Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery Book 1
by Dean Rasmussen
narrated by Kasi Hollowell
I received a complimentary copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emmie grew up in a house unlike any other, The Hanging House. Her parents, obsessed with anything and everything to do with the occult, were happy there, but were they aware of the house being haunted? The house had a separate apartment where Frankie, her childhood friend, lived with his mother, Mary, a single parent. As a child, she knew she had certain abilities and that she could see things, dead children specifically, that others couldn't, which terrified her. After graduating from school, she left home as soon as possible, finally leaving her childhood ordeal behind her, including the tragic memory of Frankie's death who died in what they deemed to be a freak accident.
Unfortunately, several years later, the company that employed Emmie was not doing well, and she eventually had to follow many of her co-workers, leaving work for the last time jobless. She had no choice but to return to her childhood home in Green Hills, Minnesota, returning to the house that traumatised her so much in her youth, complete with all its memories. But would the house and its ghostly residents remember her?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, hooked from the first page. The thought of your childhood home, a place that is supposed to be a safe environment full of apparitions, especially one like “ the hanging girl”, would terrify me. But Emmie found the strength to return and face her fears head-on...not sure I could or would have made the same decision but lacking funds, what other choice did she have? The author creates an air of mystery and terror. I tried to solve the mystery whilst reading and became enthralled with the plot that tried to unsettle and frighten me.
I also listened to the audio version narrated by Kasi Hollowell. She brought the book to life, infusing Dean Rasmussen's writing with passion and emotion. Her tone is perfect for this book, creating an ambience in all the correct places, and providing me with another enjoyable discovery of this book.

Good
Although not scary this is a good ghost story with good characters which hopefully becomes more fleshed out as the series continues.

Great horror
This was a great introduction to a new writer and series!
I've never heard of Dean Rasmussen but I'm glad I tried this book.
We follow Emmie from her empty life in LA back home to Minnesota, where she has a haunted mansion and secrets galore waiting for her.
There she encounters old friends, some new and not to mention ghosts in her small town.
The story has many horror elements, and I'm confident this series is not for reading before bed. And that is all right with me.
If you can't handle violence against children, I wouldn't recommend these books, but if you're up for a great female lead, found family, and heart-wrenching sadness, then Hanging House might be just for you.
I know I'm on my way to the next in the series.
And hoping, just a bit, for a budding romance between Emmie and Sarah.

Oh Believe
I loved the narration of Kasi Hollowell, she bought out the characters and made the ghost appear.
Emmie has been seen ghosts of dead children, since she has been a child. When her family moved into a house Emmie was continually harassed by one dead girl seen hanging from a tree on the property. When her friend Frankie died , she was left broken and bruised. When able she moved away. Fate brings back to her old home and the hanging girl. Still able to see ghosts, All asking for help.
With a help of a old school friend and a ghost haunter , Emmie's gift helps solve a murder mystery.

Not bedtime reading!
This is a really enjoyable listen, It is well written and edge of the seat stuff from start to finish. The characters are well defined and likeable, I particularly liked the cheeky little boy! Unlike the previous reviewer I was on edge all the way through, Hanging House would have had me running a mile! The book is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good ghost story with a murder mystery built in. I look forward to listening to more of Deans books. The narrator was outstanding I thought, she really brought the story to life. Well worth it's 5 stars!*****
I was given a promo copy of the book by the author and voluntarily leave this honest review.

best since Darcy
I loved it. I love all kinds of haunted house stories but usually they do not deliver in the spooky factor. Darcy Coates is my favourite author and although I'm only on book 1, I feel I've found a new favourite up there in the top five. looking forward to listening to more by this author.

Bug eyes!
This is my first book written by this author, so it was a leap of faith and I was so glad I did.
The story was good and very well written, though not the scariest I had read, it was up there with the best of them, ghostly murdered children lingering around the MC made me wanting more of this series.
the author and narrator worked well to bring this ghostly tale alive.

Gripping Story and Captivating Writing
This was one of the easiest listens I've found in a long time! a truly well written captivating story that had me hooked from the very start. the author has a talent for keeping the reader/listener entranced throughout the story! I will say that in regret not stumbling across the book version first as I've been trying to find a paperback to captivate me to rediscover my love for reading and I honestly think this would have been the perfect book to reignite that love! I would highly recommend this and I'm currently downloading book 2!😍
