About this listen

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1: Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem-staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: Being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Surprisingly great 👍

Pleasantly surprised by the plot, although there were too many shifts of demons for me.

great story, annoying narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great story and characters but the narrators voice was very irratating. love the story line and will listen to the other books. Shame about the narrator, when she did male voices it was very croaky for all charachters and irratating. Sounds like a frog

"Exploring Half-Blood: A Shadowhunters Fan's Take on Jennifer L. Armentrout's YA Adventure"

This was my first experience with Jennifer L Armentrouts writing. I was curious to explore her style, and I can see why her work appeals to so many readers. If you enjoyed The Shadowhunters series, you’ll find this book offers similar vibes. Honestly, if I had read it when I was younger, I probably would have been obsessed. However, my tastes have shifted over time. While I still enjoy YA on occasion, I find myself craving stories with more mature themes.

The storyline was engaging, and I appreciated the mix of Greek mythology, action, and forbidden romance. That said, I struggled to connect deeply with the characters, even though I do share a name with the main character, Alex. I also found it hard to fully immerse myself in a solo-narrated audiobook. Personally, I think duet or dual narration creates a more dynamic listening experience, unless I’m revisiting a story I already know.

As a fan of The Shadowhunters, I enjoyed this book for its familiar atmosphere, though it didn’t quite hook me enough to dive into the next installment right away. I do plan to continue the series eventually to see how the story unfolds, but for now, I’m more excited to explore other books by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Yes if you like Vampire books with a bit of a difference

Liked them all as this makes the story

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Justine Eyre?

A decent start to a series

I enjoyed listening to this book. The plot was engaging and there was a bit of depth to most of the characters. The romance simmered along nicely without being overly graphic/ inappropriately detailed for a YA audience. The narrator was excellent. Overall, it was a decent start to a series. (Unfortunately, the last book of the series was a huge disappointment and I'm not sure I can actually recommend the series on that basis).

Story good, narrator meh

The narrator sounds like she's in a desperate state for 90% of the time. The other 10% she's flitting between a Russian and French accent for an important character? Off putting.. Anyway, the story itself is well written and an easy read

Nice gem

I don’t know what I was expecting but when I started I couldn’t put it down. I am a fan! It was really engaging and gripped my attention. There were no slow areas the pace was excellent. Looking forward to part two.
