About this listen

A rebellious princess. A cursed rogue. A forbidden love that will bring a kingdom to its knees.

As niece of the king, Elise Lysander cares about two things: sneaking into gambling dens, and avoiding an advantageous marriage at all costs.

When her uncle holds the life of her deathly ill father over her head, reluctantly, Elise puts her fate into the hands of Legion Grey, the handsome and mysterious dowry negotiator. He may be arrogant and infuriating, but soon Legion incites a blistering, forbidden passion she can’t ignore.

As their attraction grows, so do the dangers: attacks from black-eyed people, a cursed enemy who is more beast than man, and rumors of fae returning for the crown they believe was stolen from them long ago.

After a bloody coup upends the kingdom, Elise flees with Legion, but nothing is as it seems. The man she allowed into her heart reveals his own secret plans with the return of magic—and he has every intention of using Elise to see them through.

With war between magic and mortal on the horizon, Elise must pick a side to protect her kingdom. Does she stand with her people who stole the throne? Or with a man who lied his way into her heart and whose secret past could bring her destruction?

Filled with luscious world building, banter-filled romance, and epic battles, Curse of Shadows and Thorns is the first book in The Broken Kingdoms series.

Legion Lover

This a fun, enjoyable read with a rich history and great characters. I didn't love the racism aspect of the book but it was handled well and I'm looking forward to seeing where the plot goes. Legion = legend!!

I loved it!

Stina’s performance was sensational as always - and the story was great! I loved Legion and the genre was well matched.

Predictable

Even though it was pretty obvious from the beginning what would happen I still enjoyed the journey. The story is average and not a unique concept by any means but the execution was well done.

Curse of the shadows and thorns

I really enjoyed this book. It had many twists and turns which left you guessing. It had an actual story line rather than a love all about sex etc looking forward to listening to Book 2

It’s nice but..

The storyline is very close to Blood And Ash, as others remarked. I has some variety but it’s really the same plot so far, almost done with book 2 and it really resembles most of the tropes. even the narrator is the same, which if you thought the storyline was a coincidence, getting the same narrator makes much less likely..

Inspiration is fine but I would say this trips it over more than just a fan fiction of Blood and Ash..

Enjoyed it a lot

Stunning performance by Stina Nielsen, as always. Everything she reads is superb. The story is good too, on the same shelf as FBAA, ASITE, and ACOTAR. Perfect if you have a book hangover from the other series. Well developed plot, interesting characters and believable romance. This is quite a slow burn but I enjoyed it and I can’t wait to listen to the rest.

Okay not the best

The set up and world building are good but the plot drags a bit. Not sure I’ll get the rest.

I’m in two minds!

I had a bumpy start to this book I nearly didn’t carry on with it as it took me a while to settle into the story. I didn’t engage with the characters like I usually do but the second half of the book was an improvement & I enjoyed the ending so I’m going to carry on to the next book & hope for more character development. Overall the story was good but it didn’t grip me like other books have & there was hardly any romance & no spice! Let’s see what book 2 brings as I feel the story has a lot more to offer…

I'm a little conflicted

In the beginning I thought this was going to be a nordic inspired copy of Jennifer armentrouts "From blood and Ash"
Though the story have points that are really similar I like the differences.

The nordic feel was interesting but I'm not sure if I liked it or not. 🤔

And then I feel like there were parts that I felt dragged along and other parts that I feel like needed more.

The last thing I'd like to comment is the characters. Compared to many other books like it I've read I didn't feel as involved in the characters as I've done other times.
There are parts I feel like a try to get the reader to be emotionally involved with the character but it just doesn't work for me. Why.. I honestly cannot say.
