Summary
To prove I'm not a monster, I have to play a monstrous game.
The men I'm falling for have discovered my horrific secret. Only the intervention of a god has saved me and my forbidden magic from the gallows... for now.
We've barely scraped the surface of the brutal conspiracy lurking at the royal college, and the threat looms ever larger. To get to the root of the evil and destroy it, we'll have to infiltrate it at its source.
And I'm the only viable new recruit.
So I'll play a dangerous game, courting the favor of cold-blooded murderers while dallying with noblemen who don't know whether to revile or desire me.
But the deeper I'm drawn into the darkness, the more I wonder if there's any way for me to truly win...
*Games of Death and Desire is the second book in a new fantasy romance series full of forbidden magic, impossible love, hot damaged men, and a rebellious heroine who's so much more than she imagines. There are more books to come.*

Knives is still my favourite nickname
This picks up from the dramatic ending of book one where Ivy's secret was revealed and she is dealing with the aftermath of the MMCs finding out the truth. The addition of the MMC's POVs added so much to the narrative; my preference is duet style audiobooks but Jason Clarke is one of the best dual narrators I have listened to. I loved his interpretation of Ivy as well as the various male characters.
The scourge sorcerer plotline also continues with Ivy going deeper under cover to find out how far this conspiracy reaches. This is a romantasy where the plot is the main focus rather than the romance itself however the way the relationships evolve is very organic and never feels forced. We find out more about the backstory of the characters; Aleks in particular was a standout in this as he opens up to Ivy.
Knives is still my favourite nickname and I'm not over it. As this character's gift was distracting people to get himself out of trouble I am allowing myself a glimmer of hope despite what Stavros said. It was glossed over too quickly for me so I'm holding out that there is more to this.
Needless to say I didn't see the twists and turns in this coming and loved the ending. I am really enjoying the overarching mythology in this and hope we see more of the godlen in book three.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely and I have added all the authors works to my TBR

Why Choose Fantasy Romance
Games of Death and Desire by Eva Chase is a why choose fantasy romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Michelle Sparks and Jason Clarke. This is the second book in the Rites of Possession series.
I absolutely love Eva's books! She did an amazing job keeping me hooked through this book. There were definitely some surprises I did not see coming in this book. I really enjoyed getting Ivy, Stavros, Casimir, and Aleksi's points of views throughout the book.
I originally read the book and was so excited when I saw it was coming to audio. Jason and Michelle did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
The book ended on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book in the series Secrets of Graves and Gold to be released on March 6, 2024.
I would recommend this series if you're looking for a fantasy romance, slow burn romance, or why choose romance.

Brilliant addition to the series
This series just gets better and better. Ivy Alex and Casimir are getting on well and even Stavros seems to be softening. But the enemy is getting more devious and dangerous. The plot twist just keep coming. This is a brilliant listen the narration is perfect. I look forward to the next book in this series.
