About this listen

Italy, 1943—Germany occupies much of the country, placing the Jewish population in grave danger during World War II.

As children, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were raised like family but divided by circumstance and religion. As the years go by, the two find themselves falling in love. But the church calls to Angelo and, despite his deep feelings for Eva, he chooses the priesthood.

Now, more than a decade later, Angelo is a Catholic priest and Eva is a woman with nowhere to turn. With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church.

But Eva can't quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.

Excellent

The narration was spot on. Story tells of a Young Jewish Italian girl during world War two. It is essentially a romance with her love interest being a catholic priest. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Eva's white angel

Unfortunately it took about an hour to get into this, but then it unfurled and gentle took me on the journey wirh Eva and Angelo throughout WW2.

The horrors of the war are told but not dwelt upon, just he spirit of family friends and survival were upper most to this storey.

Cassandra Campbell delivered the narration well and her Italian accents were heavenly however being an American the prose was delivered with an Americanism which was not right for a book based in Europe.

That said I would highly recommend this.

outstanding story, brilliant narration

What an outstanding story. I'm not sure I have the words to do this book justice, to convey the horrors committed against the Jews and other non fascist groups in WWII, as well as the bravery, sacrifice, hope and love that was given in secret in order to protect and hide those in danger. This was an incredible love story between two people who in theory shouldn't have been, but were always meant to be.

This book brought out every emotion in me, from smiles and laughter to anger, horror and heartbreak. I shed tears of sadness and joy. I'm sure you are all aware of what happened to the Jews in WWII, but this book was brilliantly written, sensitive and truthful. Horrific circumstances like this bring out the best but also the very worst in people and we see this throughout, but not always from who you expect. Yes the love story was fiction but so beautiful in it's struggle, the love between a Jewish girl and a Catholic boy. I honestly had no idea how it would end.

If you love a bit of history with your romance and want a book that makes you feel so much, read this, I cant imagine you will will be disappointed or come away unaffected. The narrator was excellent, her voice bringing the story to life. Thought provoking and emotional, this story will stay with me for a long time

🎧 Angelo and Eva 🎧

A harrowing, yet ultimately uplifting story of a lifelong love surviving a genocidal war.
The narration was good, apart from the consistent mispronounciation of O'Flaherty and Ardennes.
