About this listen

A Love in Laguna Novel

Merle Justice wants to reach for the stars, but it’s tough to get respect when playing a teenybopper vampire on TV. Then he meets a famous director anxious to give him all he thinks he wants—and maybe a bit more. Everything’s looking up until a life-threatening encounter with some homophobes on Main Beach puts Merle face-to-face with a Sasquatch-sized hero in a pink puffer coat.

Tom Henry defies description. As unsophisticated and simple as an angel, he walks through life content with who he is and asking for very little except to care for his sister, Lily, and the dogs he loves. Then he meets Merle, the embodiment of dreams he barely knows he has. Merle knows the people who hold his future in their hands might love Tom—but they’ll never understand Merle and Tom together. Tom knows it too. With lives this far apart, who’s really the fool of Main Beach?

Not KC Kelly's best IMHO....

4.25 stars from me. As far as the story goes, I adored Tom right from the start and had to wonder whether Merle would be able to see clearly enough into his future that he could ignore everything anyone said about Tom being 'slow'...particularly Hollywood people, who are obviously not known for their kindness 😕. Luckily, he finally came to his senses and decided he would rather be with someone who made him happy and actually loved him 💜, than a hanger-on who was just there for the prestige and publicity. Nice to catch up with Billy and Chaz, and Ru and Gray, and Tom's sister Lily gradually grew on me, although I can't honestly say I liked Merle's parents that much, and the less said about the Henry's, the better 😠 .

The reason I've only given 4.25 stars is I had a problem with KC's narration unfortunately. I listened to the first story in the series Knight of Ocean Avenue, and loved the narration BUT I didn't care for his 'Ru' voice at all...it sounded like a constipated parrot, and put me off listening to Ru's story. Move on down the line, and we have both Chaz and Ru in this story and KC keeps muddling his voices up for the two of them. When Chaz is not on page, Ru gets his [Chaz's] 'voice' and when they're both in the same scene, Ru becomes the constipated parrot again 😉.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
