About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Have you ever found yourself struggling with information overload?

Have you ever felt both overworked and underutilised?

Do you ever feel busy but not productive?

If you answered yes to any of these, the way out is to become an essentialist.

In Essentialism, Greg McKeown, CEO of a leadership and strategy agency in Silicon Valley who has run courses at Apple, Google and Facebook, shows you how to achieve what he calls the disciplined pursuit of less. Being an essentialist is about a disciplined way of thinking. It means challenging the core assumptions of "we can have it all" and "I have to do everything" and replacing them with the pursuit of "the right thing in the right way at the right time".

By applying a more selective criteria for what is essential, the pursuit of less allows us to regain control of our own choices so we can channel our time, energy and effort into making the highest possible contribution toward the goals and activities that matter.

Using the experience and insight of working with the leaders of the most innovative companies and organisations in the world, McKeown shows you how to put Essentialism into practice in your own life, so you, too, can achieve something great.

good examples of how essentialism works.

some good examples of where essentialism has been applied. Essentially how to minimise what you are doing that doesn't matter and how to maximise what aligns to your goals. the most useful thing I got from this book is decide on your priority and don't let others do it for you. this boils down to effectively saying no to detracting tasks. didn't get a 5 just because I felt the book could have been shortened and still made the same points - e.g. less examples.

Lifechanging and desperately needed today

This book will completely transform your life. Easily one of the best books I have ever read. I will come back to this again and again.

I've been applying the priciples for a few weeks and already noticing a massive difference. Looking forward to the incredible journey that lies ahead of me.

Great content, great ideas

Great content, story and ideas of limiting yourself to essential tasks.
Follows the idea of "The One Thing"
Restores the idea of "Priority" as a singular-only noun

Should be followed by the "Effortless" by the same author who meets the challange of fulfilling the ideas of "Essentialism" after its success

'Essentialism' was all I expected and way more. It encapsulates the essence of the author's concept perfectly. I will listen to it again for sure and have now also bought the book do that I can flick through the key ideas.
I look forward to listening to the next one by Greg McKeown - Effortless.
