Summary
Phryne Fisher has plans for her Sydney sojourn, but they begin to go awry when Phryne's maid discovers that her respectable sister Joan has left her family for the murky nightlife on the Cross...and then postponed again because Phyrne is definitely not the woman to say 'no' when two delightful young men are on their knees, begging for her help in finding their friend innocent of theft.
It all sounds simple enough as Phryne sets investigations into motion. But when greed and fear are the motivating factors, people become ruthless and Phyrne quickly finds herself enmeshed in blackmail, secrets, lies and the dangerous influences of deep magic.

Good story, even if you know nothing of cricket
I enjoyed the mystery a lot, the parts about cricket are more abracadabra for me than Crowley could ever muster, but it was still a good book.

Cricket
What did you like most about Death Before Wicket?
I enjoyed the diversity of the people in this story and our heroine is as glorious and promiscuous as usual.

Only reason I've not given it her normal 5 stars is that I'm really not interested in cricket , but it wasn't too much to spoil the general story.

Crime and Cricket
Would you consider the audio edition of Death Before Wicket to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Death Before Wicket?

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Daniel’s other performances? How does this one compare?
As always Stephanie Daniel's reading of this draws me into the story. She is a great choice for this series of stories.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and if not for interruptions would have done so.
Any additional comments?
The only downer was the sudden appearance of a stray throwback to when this recording was on CDs wanting me to either change from or to cd 6 (listened July 2015)

GREAT PERIOD FUN THRILLER
This is a fantastic funny thriller and i really enjoyed the characters and plot.
The narrator is fabulous and the pace is great.well worth a listen.

Death Before Wicket
Back to a fun, thrilling murder mystery, with a little roughing up. This time Miss Fisher follows the cricket to Sydney, only to be asked by some students to help their friend who is going to be send down from University as stolen property was found in his locker. A kidnapping and roughing up later Miss Fisher has worked out how, who and why. Read brilliantly again by Stephanie Daniel.

Too lurid; not much about cricket
This is the most lurid of the Phryne Fisher stories I have come across. When it got onto the psychic rape dream I stopped reading.
