Summary

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is haunted by the past in his latest case, and his private life, in Dead Man's Time, by award winning crime writer Peter James.

A vicious robbery at a secluded Brighton mansion leaves its elderly occupant fighting for her life. Millions of pounds’ worth of valuables have been stolen.

Within days, Grace is racing against the clock, following a murderous trail that leads him from the shady antiques world of England, across Europe and all the way back to the New York waterfront’s gang struggles of 1922, chasing a killer driven by the force of one man’s greed and another man’s fury.

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead Man's Time is the ninth gripping title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Want You Dead and You Are Dead.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

James at his best

Where does Dead Man's Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book ranks high amongst my 'listens'. Fist of all the narration is excellent. The story is probably the best of all the Roy Grace books and it has the distinction of eliciting sympathy for one of the shadier characters. I was willing him to commit not one but two murders by the end of the book. I was also pleased that one other man got away with murder too.So that says something about how unusual this story is. There is also quite a delightful twist in the tail. I have a few unanswered questions but all in all a five star book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The old man because I was on his side from page 1 line 1.

What does Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Daniel Weyman's narration brings the characters to life much more vividly than mere reading ever could and greatly enhances the listening experience. His change of voice and accent for each character never waivers throughout the story and Peter James must be delighted to have such an excellent reader of his book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but also wanted to make it last as long as possible. Quite a dilemma!

Great story, again

Thoroughly enjoyable. You don’t really need to have read/kistened to previous books in the series, but it helps.

I found the occasional grammatical error in the narrated book a tad disturbing. But the brain interprets what the eye sees in accordance with what it expects. Perhaps that’s what happened during the narration. Most people would probably not notice the subject-verb non-agreement and the other infelicities, but I’m an editor. LOL.

The story is anyway compelking.

One of the best so far

Storyline hooked me straight away and kept up the pace to the end. Excellent characters and very well described leaving just enough to the imagination.

Fab

As usual excellent! I’m really enjoying all of these book in the series.
People say you can read the books out of order as no thread runs through them case wise but you would miss the timelines of the characters lives.

Loving the twist with Sandy.

Just the the twists at the end. It’s never what it seems with Roy and Sandy. Look forward to the next one!

Not exactly memorable

Maybe I shouldn't have jumped from the first in the Roy Grace series to this one because I've obviously missed much of his back story. I was really blown away by the first - loved the pace and suspense and in comparison this felt a bit flat. I can't remember much about the story or how it ended a short while after finishing it, so nothing about it particularly stuck out. I'm not saying it was terrible - I liked it enough to see it through to the end, but it wasn't a remarkable story or a page turner. Great narrator though.
