Summary

Enter the Underworld in an epic new fantasy, where the Gods of ancient Greece rule everything but fate.

Deina is trapped. As one of the Soul Severers serving the god Hades on earth, her future is tied to the task of shepherding the dying on from the mortal world—unless she can earn or steal enough to buy her way out.

Then the tyrant ruler Orpheus offers both fortune and freedom to whoever can retrieve his dead wife, Eurydice, from the Underworld. Deina jumps at the chance. But to win, she must enter an uneasy alliance with a group of fellow Severers she neither likes nor trusts.

So begins their perilous journey into the realm of Hades.... The prize of freedom is before her—but what will it take to reach it?

From the authors of A Throne of Swans and A Crown of Talons comes a stunning new epic duology set in a world inspired by the mythology of ancient Greece.

Perfect for fans of Alexandra Bracken's Lore and Jessie Burton's Medusa.

Great story, extraordinary narration

A twisted tale of tyrants, traitors, thrives and heroes. Poetically written and masterfully narrated. A stand-out performance that really brought the characters to vivid life in my mind.

Love it

A clever story based in Greek mythology. The tension and intrigue builds and builds throughout the whole story. Very good

Loved it

Perfect escapism, cannot wait to listen to the next one! Great heroine, interesting characters. The narrator was good, but overdid it in places, which took me out of the story at times. But overall, highly enjoyable.

Unexpected gem!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did! It was like a novel version of a dungeons and dragons game.
A group a soul severers go to the underworld to retrieve the King's wife. A bard, a fighter, a thinker, a friend, and a thief. Nothing is what it appears. The Gods play tricks and humans can't be trusted.

Greek retelling at it's finest

Katherine and Liz first off are such wonderful and kind people.

Second this is my first book I have read by them despite having met them twice now 🙈

Daughter of Darkness where do I begin?! This story had me gripped from page 1 as soon as we are introduced to our main girl Deina. Who is bad ass! Her story arc was so good! I am very much looking forward to more.

Her quest into the underworld with her 'companions' and fellow soul severers takes you on a whirlwind of emotions. Definitely reserve your judgement of each member of this company till the end of the book. And even then I feel book 2 will raise even more surprises. Without spoiling anything I would order the company like this. Deina, Theron, Drex, Dendris *note she enters later 😉* Aster and finally Chryse.

As a lover of Greek history and Greek mythology this book was perfect for me. And I particularly loved what Kat and Liz did with the Orpheus character. Though I may not necessarily agree with it 😂 but that's just my history brain and myth brain being picky. So not a real gripe at all. I can definitely see which two historical figures they were using. So I am happy with that. Everything really was very clever.

So thank you ladies for bringing me Deina. And her 'companions' and a certain boy named Nat 😉

Gripping Twist On Greek Mythology

Fate, love, betrayal, prophecy, a struggle to survive with humanity intact. These are some of the themes explored in this gripping tale of a journey in the underworld to return a dead queen to life and earn freedom from a lifetime of servitude.
