About this listen
Liberia didn't have to wait for the seventh seal to be broken - the Apocalypse had already visited. Fragmented buildings, torn up roads, and bullet signature tattoos on practically every surface evidenced the destroyer. Lynn Fausett entered a world staggering in the aftermath of war. Hired to mine gold and diamonds, Fausett lives along the hostile border region of Sierra Leone during the years 1998-99, home to the acclaimed blood diamond fields. "Butcher of Monrovia" warlord president of Liberia, Charles Taylor, keeps tensions and atrocities high in his fight for control of the mineral wealth of the area. As a result, rage, pillaging, and murder are routine facets of civilian life in Royal Cape Mount County. Fausett similarly is foundering in the wake of his own losses. As he immerses himself into his work and the daily struggle to survive, he finds renewed motivation in his fight to help and protect the people that he comes to know and love. Pulled by competing sides fueled by greed, he's torn between the loyalty he feels to his employer and the greater needs of the Liberian people.
