About this listen
A new world. A new life. A chance to start over.
Through no fault of his own, Joe’s life was starting on a downward spiral. Bad things can happen to good people, but this is not much comfort for those who are treading water, trying not to be drowned by misfortune.
Luckily, sometimes people can catch a break, a chance to start over.
When he's transported to an alternate Earth full of magic, wonder, and light RPG elements, Joe just wants to build a comfortable life. He begins to put down roots and make friends in the port city of Lockwood.
But can he make a home for himself when fire spirits scorch his bathroom, demon dogs trample his rose garden, and countless other magical mayhem threatens his peace?
Don't miss the start of the cozy fantasy LitRPG series that proves that even in the quietest lives, the most dramatic things happen. A recipe gone awry because you lack one important ingredient and you need to make this cake for someone you love for their birthday, which happens to be the next day. Low stakes? Nah.
Now add magic, dragons, spirits, and gods. And Joe.
Joe is a cool guy.
You'll like Joe.

I wish I enjoyed this
I love cozy stories, I love the writers past works and the narration is solid, but this book sadly fell flat for me.
The basic power concept was fun and entertainingly difficult but sadly that's where the major draw for the story is. The main character runs around insisting he is not a sorcerer, just a wizard only to later discover that the world he is in has sorcerers not wizards and it sure was handy be didn't claim to be one. A scientist character who was born and raised on a world with magic and gods seems to have all the hang ups a Earth scientist would have. Between some odd dialogue and weird developments I couldn't help but feel a bit disheartened for a solid fun concept. The book was still generally enjoyable and if you are light on cozy reads its nice enough, but not a must.
While this book is relatively enjoyable it's also rather clunky, which is a shame.
This said, do check out the authors other works and they are fun.

oof!
I wanted to like this, I really did.
The premise is interesting, but that dialogue.... yikes.
The writing was at times extremely cringey, clunky (lots of "x character said" "dialogue" then "y character said" "dialogue"). Characters are specifically addressing each other, we know who is speaking without it most of the time.
Also, please put the bad 90s American sitcom humour down, and move slowly away from it. Not even a laugh track would have saved this.
Perhaps suitable for the tween market.

A nice break between bloody battle focused LitRPGs
Jo is a people pleaser, get onboard with that early or this will be a frustrating experience. If you expect him to stand up for himself and enjoy the power fantasy of a litRPG that's not what you're going to get.
If however you come in looking for a litRPG combined with a more relaxed slice of life you'll enjoy yourself. The book is not devoid of action but it's more true to the experience a none combative person from our world would have in an isekai.
