Summary
Allerdale: Handsome and charismatic, Miles Gilham, Earl of Allerdale, has a reputation for being a little wild. After spending months running his father’s estate in Yorkshire to make amends for disgracing his family the year before, he reluctantly returns to Town. He has promised his mother that he will find a bride this season, but his heart is not in it. The only eligible lady that amuses him is not looking for a husband and is the sort of headstrong girl that would make an uncomfortable wife.
Bassington: Captain Charles Bassington of the 13th Light Dragoons is famed for his good luck, high spirits, and devil-may-care attitude. He escapes serious injury at Waterloo only to succumb to an inflammation of the lungs. When he returns home to recuperate, cracks begin to appear in his cheery façade. It is only when two eminently eligible bachelors appear to be vying for the hand of his childhood friend, Lady Selena Sheringham, that Charles realizes his heart’s desire.
But how can the younger son of a baron ever hope to be worthy of the wealthy daughter of an earl?
Carteret: Dignified, reserved, and every inch the gentleman, Laurence Westerby, the fifth Viscount Carteret, finds his ordered and predictable world turned on its head when a mysterious lady steps into his private parlor. He thinks her spirited, reckless, and undoubtedly in need of his protection.
An unlikely friendship is forged, but will it survive the pressures of potential abductors, smugglers, and a suspected murderer?

A Perfect Trilogy
I’m really happy that these stories were put together, as when one was finished, you immediately wanted to progress to the next.
I enjoyed both the first and the last story better than the second, but all three of them were really well written. I especially liked how the disparate family circles were depicted, as well as the male friendship dynamics.
Jenny Hambly is an author to pay attention to.

All 3 books were a joy to listen to.
Each of the 3 books was different but very enjoyable, Jenny Hambly is an excellent writer who has researched the period in which she writes.
The stories are romances, I for one prefer them as they don't contain sexualised scenes.
Great for fans of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, I'll be buying more.
The narrator is very good and easy to listen to.
5 stars all round.

If you enjoy a Romance
Charming, we all know how these start and finish. Yet I still enjoy them. Soft and kind and gentile.
