About this listen

When her boss, James Langton, is almost fatally injured while pursuing a ruthless gang, Detective Anna Travis must put her own career on hold as she nurses him through his intense frustration and desperation to bring his would-be murderer to justice.

Then Anna is assigned to a different case, the vicious murder of a quiet, studious woman whose body was found by her daughter—a senseless attack with no obvious motive or immediate suspect. Until, chillingly, the case becomes unexpectedly linked with that of her boss, and Anna finds herself under threat from those who almost destroyed his career and his life.

Really enjoying rereading this series.

Another great book in this sereies. It's a great series to reread during my work as I can enjoy it while doing my job. I also like the way this reader reads the series and think she's doing a great job. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Bits from my past mad me laugh out loud

Not a spoiler by any means but the chapter when they bugged the posh house and the wife wants to sack the maid by ruining the fillet steaks by boiling them. Same thing happened to me in Zimbabwe. I purchased some lovely fillet steaks for a dinner for 4. Maid took it upon herself to cook them for me. Needless to say the steaks were boiled in water. I also gave them to the dogs as they were ruined.

audible page turner...

Great story and outstanding narration by Kristin Atherton. it's rare for a narrator to have such a huge range of such credible voices for both male and female characters. I had also forgotten how talented a crime writer Lynda la Plante is.

Confusing story and annoying narrator

As a fan of Lynda La Plante I was delighted to find the Anna Travis series which, though old, was new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series. although the narrator was the same the strength of the story made her shouting easier to ignore. This story is not in the same league. I found it rather confusing due to many characters using different names and the narrators voices lacking distinction between characters. I don’t want to spoil the ending but I found Langtons actions completely unbelievable given that he is a high ranking well respected police officer. The constant ranting about immigration and failures in the probation system also became very wearing. All in all I am not sure I will waste credits on the rest of the series.

Good story

the 'put on voices' awful, I found them really irritating, especially when she tried to speak like a male

Tedious

I've read a few of the Travis series, she is so boring , the character doesn't develop. God forbid she do anything risqué! Found a lot of the violence gratuitous. I don't know when it was written but in parts it could have been saying loud and clear vote brexit.

Could be shorter

The story was good, as all Linda Planter's UK based books are, but I did find myself wishing at 75% through that she would come to the point. Narrator is good, other than the odd shouting bits, which really grated on me.
