About this listen

When a new lead in a cold case comes to light, Detective Anna Travis faces the biggest challenge of her career. Five years ago, a teenage girl disappeared in broad daylight on a busy street and the mystery has haunted Anna's boss Langton, who led the original investigation, for years.

With a confession to this murder and one more besides, Langton believes he finally has his man—but Anna isn't so sure. With a lack of evidence, the confession is critical to the arrest. And when the suspect changes his story, it looks like the case could fall apart. Can Anna and Langton find the evidence they need before the trail once again goes cold?

A long tale

Some good twists. Sometimes the narration is a little mundane but the characters are well acted

Strength and determination

Sometimes burying the pain and carrying on can work but having someone around who understands makes all the difference, when you are determined to carry on, and deny the truth to yourself. Being a good detective doesn't mean you are invincible.

I admire how the author can hold the audience whilst weaving a tale of human efforts and foibles.

Love this series

Didn’t think I would like Anna Travis having grown op with ájame Tennison but she’s grown on me! Pity her personal life is a mess! Great series and narration

Narrator over excited which spoilt the story

I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series but this one was read more like a famous five/secret seven such a shame it spoilt it for me

Unusual……

…in that the story was improbable (thank goodness). It was also strung out - making me feel, as Langton would have exclaimed, “Get on with it!”

A good long listen.

I'm enoying this series of books apart from the Langdon character. I like to find the characters in a book believeable but he just isn't. If he was real no-one would work with him. The relationship between him and Travis is equally wrong in every way. She would very quickly show him a clean pair of heels. He's a bit like the druid in that other detective series, in every episode and a total pain in the arse. That aside it's an OK story which will fill a few hours.

Too dark and disturbing

I have really enjoyed this series but this plot line was improbable and disturbing. I almost had to quit the book and skipped some sections. Hoping the next one is better as I like the characters just not this murder inquiry.
