About this listen
A Ciaphas Cain Anthology
This audiobook brings together 13 uproarious short stories and one novella, focused on Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium. His stories are celebrated as heroic propaganda pieces, but he’s simply trying to stay alive in a hostile galaxy.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
Ciaphas Cain doesn’t mean to be a hero – he just can’t seem to help it. While trying to escape certain death, he somehow achieves unlikely victory after victory in the wildest and most dangerous warzones of the galaxy, to hilarious effect.
THE STORY
Ciaphas Cain is a true hero. Brave, stalwart, uncompromising, a cool head under fire...or is he? His legend has spread far and wide, but only Cain himself knows the truth behind his long and storied career.
Until now.
Inquisitor Amberley Vail once more delves into the Cain archive to present a selection of the man’s greatest and strangest exploits. From Cain and the Valhallan 597th hunting down the source of a warp-tainted infection that threatens to overwhelm the world of Lentonia with a starving horde of undead, to his early years with the Valhallan 12th Field Artillery fending off a tyranid invasion on a barren mining world, to the mysterious death of a fellow commissar that sees Cain’s life at risk (once again) as the killer’s attention turns to him...

Blackadder goes to the 41st millennium.
Love this, a real refreshing take on life in the Imperium. So reminiscent of Blackadder goes forth at times it's so well written and performed. A bit of light in the grim dark of the 41st millennium.

everything I wanted
much much better than the short stories, the same voices this time and the stories (even the short ones) seem to have a reason to exist rather than the cash grab the short stories are

Always an amazing listen
I really enjoy these short stories, they have humour and action and a generous helping of Ciaphas' accidental heroism

A good collection
A good collection of several of the books. I find the excerpts good and they give a good connection, even if there is a lot missing compared to the books they come from.

Great stuff
Brilliant to have an addition or two from Jurgen’s perspective and fill in some blanks in between the previous stories.

Fills in the gaps
I truly think that Sandy Mitchell is one of the best 40K Authors.
He brings humour in such a dark grin universe, This anthology fills in the games between all the books. #
Sometimes I think Sandy just looks about the room when thinking of a Character name, "ohhh look Winnie the pooh book from Son/Daughter" = Winneth Pooh or Eeyour Dedonki, I feel its playing with the reader a lot. The fact that Eeyour DeDonki is the author of Memoirs of a Pessimist made me giggle.
Or a member of the Adaptus Mechanicus. "Atomic batteries to power, Turbines to speed". A refence to the the 60s show Batman.
Predator refences with "If it bleeds we can kill it"
The books are full of cute call backs and references that make it the series worth reading above all other authors.
I wait and wait for the third book of Penitent by Dan Abnett, but Mitchell just pumps out better books more often.
