About this listen
A mind-reader, a mob-boss, and a hit-man. What could go wrong? More fun than you can imagine!
"One of the best and rarest gems of the indie book market." (Matthew LeDrew)
Stopping at the grocery store for carrots shouldn't be dangerous, but for Shelby Nichols, it changes her life forever. During a bank robbery, she is caught in the cross-fire and grazed by a bullet to the head, leaving her with the ability to read minds.
Not only is she hearing what everyone thinks about her, but the gunman who shot her is out to silence her forever. In her fight to stay alive she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime.
This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone's thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed.
USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Colleen Helme offers a clever mix of mystery, laugh-out-loud humor, and pause-resisting adventure in the highly acclaimed Shelby Nichols Adventure Series.

Weird title, great book
I get why it’s called ‘Carrots’, I really do, but it’s still not the best title for this book and I bet it might even put people off buying it. It is a fantastic audiobook with well-rounded, likeable characters, and a great plot.

What would it be like to hear peoples thoughts..
Shelby Nicols is on her way home and decides to stop for carrots. She never realised the decision would change her life forever. Now there's a robber trying to kill her, a man stalking her and a woman who works with her husband trying to steal him from Shelby. All because she wanted carrots. I love these books by Colleen Helme and have read every one. I had one of her other book books in audible and just loved how Wendy Tremont King became Shelby. She also does a fantastic job of the other characters voices. Definitely would recommend this series. I'm now slowly buying all the audible books.

Who's responsible for the title?!!
I really enjoyed listening to this book but am still wondering about the slightly misleading title 🤔.
The narrator was excellent but then she had a very good story to excel in.
I loved Shelby's interaction with her family when she first starts to realise that she could hear their thoughts... especially the tin foil 😂😂😂
Both funny and fast paced I firmly recommend this book however I think...It Started With Carrots... maybe a better title 🤔😂

Fantastic!
I read this book years ago and loved it, but I have to say the audio version brings the story to life thanks to the fabulous narrator Wendy Tremont King .

Good story
Lots to listen to and keep you interested. Not sure why seeking help is so bad, what happened to a problem shared.... our hero does seem intent on being killed.

All because she needed carrots!
Shelby Nichols is an average woman who is married to the only guy she ever fell for. Her life is organized and predictable, revolving around her husband and two children. All that changes the day she stops at the grocery store for some carrots.
As the cashier rings up her purchases, a gunman is busy robbing the bank inside the store. When a customer grabs the robber's mask, he is shot and everyone runs for cover. Everyone except Shelby, who finds herself face to face with the killer. The next thing she knows, she's lying on the floor with a bullet wound to her head.
Luckily, the bullet only grazes her scalp, and she doesn't suspect any lasting affects until later, when she suddenly 'hears' what people are thinking.
With this uncanny ability, her life takes on a whole new dimension. Her kids think she's bossy and too old to understand them, but that's nothing compared to her husband. He says he loves her, but what is it about the redhead at work that he doesn't want her to know?
As if that isn't enough, the gunman knows she can identify him, and he's out to silence her forever. In her fight to stay alive, she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime. This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone's thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed.
I loved this book!
Shelby goes from stay-at-home mom, to reluctantly working for a mob boss. All because she needed carrots!
In this fun and fast paced story, excellently narrated by Wendy Tremont King. With a great set of characters, in this well plotted and written first in a series novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this
Bought this on a whim, didn't expect much but I actually really enjoyed it.
The narration took a little getting used to as the voices sounded similar, but the story was good, I wasn't bored at any point and the characters are well written, will definitely get the next in series.
#I'm now on book 10, still enjoying them, having had a bad one yet!
