Summary

Winner of the 2022 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award - Children's/Young Adult Audiobook

A beautiful story of life, love, and loss in the animal kingdom.

Brilliant White Peaks follows a young wolf and his companions as they battle harsh weather conditions, scarcity of food, and other predators to survive in the wild.

Raised by a loving Ma and Pa, a wolf pup grows up with his shy sister White-Ears to be a ferocious hunter. However, while foraging for food in the winter, the family is attacked by a pack of hostile wolves, leading the young wolf and his sister astray from their parents.

Desperate to find his parents again, the young wolf slowly nurses White-Ears through her injuries and sets off for the ocean, where Ma and Pa promised they would be waiting.

beautiful

This book was a dream to read. I loved it was from the young male wolf's pov. His descriptions of events and weather and his love for his sister made it a beautiful read. Loved it.

A well written book, expertly narrated

Of all nature’s wonders, it is the wolf that I am most fascinated with. So when I saw this book I knew I had to give it a go.

The story was from the wolf’s POV and we get to see the world through his eyes as he grows up. The descriptions throughout the story are so vivid, you can all but picture the locations and smell the snow or the stinking carcass of a rotting meal. We see how the wolf and his family struggle for survival and I’ll be honest, there were times my heart was tugged so hard that I had tears in my eyes.

From a pup, sharing the den with his sister, we follow the wolf’s story as he gets to grips with the world he’s in and how over time he puts into practice what he learns from his parents and see how he reacts as his world gets bigger and bigger as he grows up.

Overall, I should have given this audio book a four star review. Why? Because nature is cruel and we, the listener are not spared from that fact. However, I try my best not to be cruel to anyone, so I happily rate this story, the writer and the narrator five stars.
