About this listen

After three years working as a private investigator, newly reinstated Detective Inspector Will Foster still holds himself responsible for the death of an officer under his command. But he's returned to the Met bent on redeeming himself and that means bringing down gangland boss Joey Clarkson.

Will's prepared to put in long hours and make sacrifices for his work, even if it comes at a cost to his nascent romance with international model, Tom Gray. After all, Tom has a history of wandering but crime is a constant in London. And Will has committed himself to the Met.

But when a murder in a Soho walkup leads Will into the world of corruption, he finds himself forced to investigate his own friends and colleagues. Now the place he turned for redemption seems to be built upon lies and betrayal. And someone is more than willing to resort to murder to keep it that way.

Contains mature themes.

great plot

a truly refreshing police procedural. great characterisation and a plot which was clear enough yet with sufficient twists and turns to keep you guessing. also, a satisfying drawing together of the plotlines established in the first two books resulting in a satisfying trilogy while leaving ends open for further books in the series.

Tense, taut, and emotional

In this final book of the trilogy, Dal Maclean has hit the jackpot. Rarely has time passed so quickly as when you're listening to this tense, complex, sometimes dark finale. Maclean manages to weave an enthralling plot that evolves out all the previous main characters and events which grips with its plausibility. drama, and emotional depth.

It's fascinating to watch an author's growth through their writing. The first book is enjoyable and different, yet there are enough suspect language choices to jar, disrupting this reader's pleasure and imagination in the story. This one feels altogether superior, handling complex situations with depth, genuine emotion, and ease.

I hope for more from Dal Maclean.

Brilliant series

This is such a excellent series. Lots of action and great plot. I love all the characters. I hope there is going to be another book in the series. We don't see to be quite finished yet.

I just loved this 3rd book

There were so many twists and turns - there were points I didn’t want to hear the next chapter, convinced that would be another nasty twist. The narration is awesome, the third book even better than the first 2.

I would love there to be a book 4 but it seems Dal MacLean disappeared after this book and nothing else was written

Best of Dal MacLean & Gary Furlong

Read/listened to all 3 of Dal MacLeans books and this is by far the best one yet. Entwining James in the story was a great touch and the plot was absolutely gripping. Very well researched and realistic.

Gary Furlong has become my favourite audible narrator after this performance, it was flawless (with the exception of his pronunciation of Bermondsey at the end of the story, that made me laugh!). This is a truly stellar performance by him and made me listen for hours at a time.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Excellent story, perfectly narrated

This series has become one of my favorites. Loved getting Will's perspective and especially loved that there was quite a bit of James in this one also. Gary Furlong does an excellent job narrating as usual.

Brilliant

Another great book in this exceptional series. It is full of great detective work and general adventure - not forgetting a lot of emotion between the protagonist and his boyfriend.
The narrator, again, is first rate. I do hope there will be further novels in this series.
