Summary

Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is not to be Tennessee's reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother's ambitions, and her father's puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.

Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he's in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So what's a maniacal mastermind to do?

Likely, the last thing you expect.

Beard Science is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be heard as a standalone.

Reid is one of my favourite writers.

If you like a smart romance, this is perfect. I strongly recommend the whole series as well as Penny Reid's other books. Her stories are intelligent, romantic and relatively realistic! The character development is phenomenal and most of her books are even educational.
The audiobook was fabulous, great voices, great accents. Loved it and listened to it 3 times.

A fantastic, cleverly crafted, funny & thoroughly entertaining story!

Penny Reid respects her readers so much that she creates clever, humorous characters who are sometimes idiosyncratic, often complex but always authentic. Cletus is a fabulous character and this book is a testament to Reid’s belief that the world is a better place because of individuals that don’t quite fit the mould!

Oh Cletus

Oh Cletus......... he's adorable, as are all the Winston boys. In the previous 2 Winston Brothers' books he comes across as extremely quirky, regimental and completely set in his ways, and book 3 only cements my opinion of that. However, Jennifer Sylvester (the banana cake queen) is equally as quirky and is in fact his ideal companion. It's a shame they don't realise they are the perfect couple, neither of them have trouble matching up other people with their soulmates, however they seem to live in denial when it comes to themselves. As much as I loved Jennifer, she had absolutely no back bone until Cletus took her under his wing. I actually felt empowered when she stood up to her father. I loved the way she challenged Cletus, I loved the way she got one up on him and I loved the way she made him feel. A beautifully written book, told in dual POV, it made me laugh out loud. A sweet, charming, funny story and a must read for Penny Reid fans.

Brilliantly quirky

Another great book from Penny Read; perfectly read by Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley. A tale of innocence and blackmail and beards and cakes and pies and being surprised by love.

Part of the Winston Brothers series and linked to knitting in the city but can be read alone.

I loved it, I'm sure you will too.

Clevis & Jenn are Awesome!

Loving listening to the Winston Brothers series, and this is definitely my favourite so far, although there's not much in it, as I also adored the first two.

I think it's Cletus' deadpan delivery that just edges this one into first place, as some of the lines that Penny wrote for him and Chris Brinkley so excellently brings to life, were just hilarious!

A dream trio of Writer and 2 excellent narrators.

As I've discovered this series a few years after it was written, there are also the first 2 Jenn & Cletus books available to me, as well as the rest of the series, and I'm totally torn between carrying on with the main series, or diverting off to hear more from Jenn & Cletus. Decisions, decisions. .... 🤔😃
