Summary
'An unputdownable, tense, fast-paced, terrifying plot that deftly twists and turns' Danielle Ramsay
Be careful what you wish for…
Mum passed recently. It was sudden and unexpected. On the cusp of adulthood, my twin sister, Skye and I are left with decisions to make that will change our lives forever.
As identical twins, we’d normally stick together like glue, but anger and grief gets the better of us and we push and pull in different directions.
Skye wants us to desert our broken family for university. While I want us to postpone our university entry and huddle together at home with our grief-stricken dad and our younger sister, Jade; try to heal our broken hearts and learn to live without our mother.
At an impasse, each of us stubbornly gets our wish.
Finding myself alone and without the other half of me, I’m desperately lonely.
I need a friend.
Someone to talk to.
Someone who understands.
But when I find that special someone, I know I’ve made a terrible mistake and trusted the wrong person.
Have I put us all in danger?
Bestselling author Diane Saxon’s utterly compelling thriller is perfect for fans of Freida McFadden and Ruth Ware.
‘An intensely dark thriller’ Ross Greenwood
'Packed full of secrets and lies, and in a town filled with an unsettling atmosphere, Saxon succeeds in putting the ‘creep’ in creepy’ Valerie Keogh

Being generous because entertaining
To like this book you just have to entirely ignore normal human behaviours and motivations / any shred of good sense. It’s strange to me that this didn’t appear to bother other readers.
Skye is presented with very strong evidence that her sister has been held captive, and she figures out where her sister is being kept. But instead of telling the police… she actively lies to the police, hides information from them which enable them to immediately locate and save her sister, and instead goes alone with no plan or weapon and without telling anyone to the location her sister is being kept… rightihoo.
When Iliana is freed by Summer, she will not return the favour by telling the police that Summer is kept hostage, even by way of an anonymous tip off… this is purportedly because she is in the country illegally. But she also has no ties to the country. She even comments she might go home, so is it really worth allowing Summer to languish in captivity being tortured, especially after she helped her escape? The police later do investigate Iliana’s injuries, we know because they have a photo of her arm, but yet she stiiiiill doesn’t tell them when she comes round from her coma that the chap has other captives/where to find them… selfish much?
I also didn’t find the family being so convinced in Summer having run away being convincing. It was just frustrating. An actual child ran away with no money or clothes or other belongings never to be seen of or heard of again and you’re just like byeeee you don’t want to be found then fine? Even if she had run away it implies extremely concerning circumstances for a child to be in. Did the police just not check her phone? Because if they had they would have seen she agreed to meet a stranger she met over the internet and never returned from that meeting…
Anyway. Ultimately the book was entertaining, even if the author puts in frustrating and nonsensical human motivations in order to develop the plot how she wants.

More twists than jive bunny.
Loved the storyline ….. kept me entertained throughout…. Where Diane gets the ideas concerns me a little. Someone should check her under her patio.
