Summary

Brought to you by Penguin

The #1 Sunday Times bestseller is back with a powerful, riveting novel, as maverick investigator Ray Lennox discovers that confronting his past could cost him everything.

OLD TRUTHS HAVE NEW CONSEQUENCES

Ray Lennox is determined to move on from his darkest days. The former detective has left Edinburgh for a fresh start in Brighton. Soon, his fixations and addictions have been replaced with quiet evenings and a rigorous fitness regime.

Then Lennox meets Mathew Cardingworth. Rich, smooth-talking and immaculately dressed, he presents himself as a successful, and respectable, property developer. Yet their encounter reawakens memories that have haunted Lennox for decades, sending him into a spiral of confusion and rage.

Lennox has no choice – he must confront the events of his childhood. But the more he identifies the links between Cardingworth, the disappearance of a group of foster care boys and the violence of his past, the more he finds himself asking:

What will he sacrifice to achieve resolution at last?

Fitting end

Narration and story were a perfect match as usual with Irvine Welsh and Tam Dean Burn. Fitting end to a brilliant trilogy. Look forward to their next collaboration.

The authors mind must be a cesspool.

The title tell you all you need to know. A story of resolution, revelation and revenge. Decades in the making and telling. A satisfactory conclusion to a life time of hurt for Lennox. The other characters all have some suspicion and like a good plot it all comes out at the end.
A times I feel the narrator could be a bit over dramatic, good actor thought.

Loved it. Classic

A very good story. Intriguing throughout as it winds its way down some murky alleyways to its original ending.

Disturbingly Brilliant

Superlative story telling. Challenging, at times excruciatingly so, but ultimately redemptive and worthwhile. First class.

What a book 🤯 and what a Narrator 👊🏻

Over the decades I’ve read and listened to every one of Irvine’s books and I’d put this in his top 3…
The plot and writing is nothing short of a masterpiece and Tam Dean Burn’s chilling narration is simply sublime…. Take a bow gentlemen 👏

Brilliant conclusion…

…to a brilliant trilogy. Ray Lennox may have his flaws but one of them certainly isn’t being boring. All three books are whatever the audiobook version of a page turner is.

Another cracker

Another great book from Irvine Welsh. If you’ve liked the rest, you’ll love this. Once again, Tam Dean Burn is an excellent narrator.

Utter Mince

Long time Welsh fan here, have read every book so far but this one is absolute garbage. Just bile negative senseless drivel. Disappointing. Couldn’t even bring myself to finish it. Zero humour. Maximum negativity.
