The brilliant psychological thriller from bestseller Valerie Keogh.

Grieving or guilty?

When Allison’s wealthy and charming husband Peter is found dead, she appears distraught, devastated...delighted?

Because despite an apparently picture-perfect marriage, Allison knows it was all built on a bed of lies.

And as the truth regarding Peter’s life and death are revealed, Allison must try to keep her own dark past buried.

Because if Peter was keeping secrets, then his widow is too....

"Keogh is the queen of compelling narratives and twisty plots." (Jenny O'Brien)

"A wonderful book, I can’t rate this one highly enough. If only there were ten stars, it’s that good. Valerie Keogh is a master story-teller, and this is a masterful performance." (Anita Waller, bestselling author)

Great physo thriller with lots of twists

This is my first experience of this author and certainly won't be my last. The plot was also very good and kept me engaged with lots of twists, turns and surprises. Every character has something to hide despite how innocuous they seem on the surface. There are agendas everywhere ... although the friendly married couple, I worked out their's immediately but not how deep it went.

Allison, an ordinary accountant is envious of a friend who clearly married for money and decided to try that out for herself.
She meets Peter who tells her he's a wealthy lawyer and conforms to being his ideal partner. Having enjoyed expensive dinners and dates, Peter quickly proposes and marries Allison who moves into his inherited London Victorian home, which Allison mentally plans to modernise. Allison also becomes a social media friend of another accountant, Jo, and meets up with her but decides it's best if they remain social rather than physical friends. But Jo is hard to shake off, not taking hints and continues to impose herself.

When Peter is suddenly killed, Allison portrays the devastated grieving widow. Jo in unconvinced. Another older and richer friend consoles and comforts her with lunches and dinner at her even more envious home with her husband who's a bit too friendly! Whilst Allison is waiting for Peter's inquest, Peter's lawyer delivers some bad news.

Both Allison and Jo have a dark secret in their past but only one of them knows the other's. But who's manipulating who and to what end? And can they all be linked together?

I love psychological thrillers and I read so many that I often work out the plot well before it's revealed. I love it even more when I find one which gives me enough to work out some of it but still throws in parts of the plot that I did not see coming ... and this is one of them. Delicious!
