About this listen
Bill Nighy stars as the suave thespian sleuth in this BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation.
Life is good for Charles Paris. He's moved back in with his estranged wife, and has landed a plum stage role as Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night. But it can't last. First his attempts to woo Frances fall flat, then the play's director is taken ill with gastric trouble. His replacement, Romanian wunderkind Alex Radelescu, is determined to take the play in a radical new direction—with or without Charles.
When a second member of the company falls sick, Charles begins to suspect a poisoner is on the loose—and the next victim could be him. Can he unmask the culprit before this comedy turns into a tragedy?
Adapted by Jeremy Front, this engaging dramatisation stars Bill Nighy as Charles Paris, with Suzanne Burden as Frances, Jon Glover as Maurice and Julian Rhind-Tutt as Alex Radelescu.

Smooth, amusing and excellent music intermingling
The Charles Paris mysteries with the familiar cast is excellent and beautifully interlaced with music. Please make another 15 episodes at least of this work of art.

Too short
The story was a bit light weight but reasonably good fun. The performances were excellent-as usual in this series.
The BUT is that these adaptations are becoming too short and are no longer value for money.

As ever I enjoyed this audio book, but….
I enjoyed this audio book, as I have done with all the Charles Paris series, however as a listener to all of them I found this one a bit disjointed in time. Charles is supposed to have burned his flat down a few audio books ago, yet this happens at the start of this book?
The whole feeling is one of the characters not being as mature to the ear of the listener as in previous stories.
Still a good listen and I can recommend it.

bad encoding by audible.
As good as this episode is, I think I've heard it before. is this a release of an older story. and no not because it's been on radio. I'm sure.
I pre-orderred this title, and was told it could be downloaded on date of release, which I did, it stuck midway through the first episode, wouldn't play, then I removed it from my library and downloaded it again. it stuck 10 minutes into episode 4. I've re-downloaded it stuck again. it is not my broadband. it has done the same on any device I've tried to play it on. NOT ON audible sort it out.

Wonderful fun! Glorious performances.
Must be written by an actor! Hilarious sketches of an actor’s life behind the scenes. Very entertaining!

Bill Nighey
Bill Nighey narrating or acting in anything at all is recommendation enough for me. A louche actor playing a a louche slightly tipsy actor with a love of women semi detached wife and good music. who else could possibly play the part.
