About this listen
Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Spark Joy by Marie Kondo, read by Sumalee Montano.
Spark Joy is an in-depth, room-by-room guide to decluttering and organising your home. It covers every room in the house, from bedrooms and kitchens to bathrooms and living rooms, as well as a wide range of items in different categories, including clothes, photographs, paperwork, books, cutlery, cosmetics, shoes, bags, wallets and valuables.
The secret to Marie Kondo's unique and simple KonMari tidying method is to focus on what you want to keep, not what you want to get rid of. Ask yourself if something 'sparks joy', and suddenly it becomes so much easier to understand if you really need it in your home and your life. When you surround yourself with things you love, you will find that your whole life begins to change.
Marie Kondo's first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying, presents her unique tidying philosophy and introduces listeners to the basics of her KonMari method. It has already transformed the homes and lives of millions of people around the world. Spark Joy is Marie Kondo's in-depth tidying masterclass, focusing on the detail of how to declutter and organise your home.

tidying in a time of covid
I listen to the first book after watching Marie's Netflix show tidying up , the consent of putting things in smaller more compartmentised space made sense to me and introduced me to the concept of joy from our living space and things we own .so when I saw there was a second book i got it and started straight away . currently the world is having a environmental break and people's lives are different. a mask comes with your keys, wallet and phone. so it's a perfect time to declutter and come out the other side of this with a more free flowing decluttered you . the thing I will say that goes against what we've always done is a better method. we been programmed to tidy , clean and declutter when we can however the more successful Marie way is declutter and discard then tidy followed by cleaning . this way you are cleaning a much more manageable space and you will have to clean less often for it.

Life changing advice
I can't wait to be able to put this into practice.
This book is ok as an audible but I think really needs to be read in hard copy due to the practical advice. I believe this is what my life needs but I just need to make time to do it!
I preferred the narrator on the Joy of tidying book as they had a more soothing voice but that is more of a criticism of casting than the actress.

Knock it all you like. It works.
First, I'll agree with the negative reviewer who said that Marie has found a way to monetarise her neurosis. If she has, good for her! I'll admit that she certainly doesn't strike me as a 'normal' person, but all I can say is that - with lots of doubt and grave reservations - I've been following her advice and I love the results.
My many, many bookshelves - in almost every room of a large house - were crammed full, with another row of books in front of the books that were already parked there, and more lying sideways on top of those... And now there are actually gaps on my bookshelves. And the world hasn't ended, in spite of getting rid of so many 'essential' reference works.
I've even followed the crazy advice to hold objects, thank them, and THEN recycle/dump them, and it works. And I've learned to recognise the spark of 'joy' that certain special objects bring.
As a guy in his mid 60's, I've ignored the advice to 'treat bras like royalty'... (see what I mean? Not a 'normal' person) but all in all I've found Kondo's books to be genuinely life-changing.
If you're even curious, give it a go - but don't just listen. DO, and see the change it makes to your life.

Joyful !
A lovely book and although similar to the 'magic art of tidying', this audible added an extra joyful layer to tidying.
I initially would have preferred the reader from the first book, but by the end of this book, it was not an issue.

Loved it!
If you've listened to The Magic of Tidying Up then this gives you a little more info to work with.
I'd struggled a little with the concept of 'sparking joy' but I now feel more comfortable with it all and I'm working hard to make this work in lots of areas of my life. The result is wonderful - very cathartic! I've been able to 'let go' of so many things - physically and mentally.

Good Advice that works
The first book from Marie Kondo was more detailed and informative but this goes on to add further advice on mindful space clearing and organising the household. Really useful tools.
