Summary

For the '70s child, summer holidays didn't mean the joy of CentreParcs or the sophistication of a Tuscan villa. They meant being crammed into a car with Grandma and heading to the coast. With just a tent for a home and a bucket for the necessities, we would set off on new adventures each year stoically resolving to enjoy ourselves.

For Emma Kennedy, and her mum and dad, disaster always came along for the ride no matter where they went. Whether it was being swept away by a force 10 gale on the Welsh coast or suffering copious amounts of food poisoning on a brave trip to the south of France, family holidays always left them battered and bruised. But they never gave up.

Emma's memoir, The Tent, The Bucket and Me, is a painfully funny reminder of just what it was like to spend your summer holidays cold, damp but with sand between your toes.

Laugh out loud funny

Lovely story, beautifully narrated, very funny reminder of 70's holidays and all the problems they could bring up.
Really enjoyed the TV show and this book was a great carry on from that.

The tent, the bucket and disastrous holidays!

Having just returned from a trip through France in a motorhome I was interested to read what camping holidays had been like in my childhood years. Emma Kennedy and her family must have had the worst luck of any family over the course of ten years of camping holidays. How Emma survived with her sanity intact is beyond me. The stories were hilarious and horrifying in equal parts and this was a very enjoyable listen as I could picture the scenes quite easily with my own memories of visiting French campsites so fresh. I am now keen to listen to another of Emma's books as she is a wonderful story teller with the ability to make you feel that you are experiencing everything with her. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good story which will make you laugh aloud and also thank your lucky stars that you didn't holiday with the Kennedy family in the 70s. A very enjoyable listen, made all the better by being read by the person who lived through these experiences.

Hilarious and nostalgic

Well read, witty account of family life in the 70s against the backdrop of ill- fated camping holidays. Absolutely loved it!

Absolutely brilliant

As its the narrators own story you could really pick up on her full emotions recalling her holiday adventures. It was hilarious and made me cry with laughter. A great listen for some light relief. Nostalgia at its best and most truthful, no rose tinted glasses here. I loved it.

What a listen!

This has to be the funniest book I have ever listened too and actually LOL laughed out loud! You’ll be hard pressed to get anything as good. Very well read by Emma herself which gave added depth to it. An absolute must. Worth more than 5 stars!!

Tiring (in a good way)

I like listening to an audiobook while dropping off to sleep, I find it impossible to sleep while laughing out loud. Therefore I'm glad I've finished the book, as I am shattered!
I spent the majority of this book laughing, but there was also some cringing, and even a little retching.
I have fallen utterly in love with Emma's parents and want them to adopt me.
