About this listen

Hank was a dying breed on the space station Belvaille. The criminal gangs that had once made their homes there were forced out by the corporations that had taken over since the facility became an Independent Protectorate. Instead of the gentlemanly gang wars that had once dominated the scene, and made Hank's services prized as a negotiator, the city was now plagued by the clash of corporate armies using heavy weapons. Even tanks roamed the streets regularly. Most everyone from the olden days had either fled the station or was killed due to the organizational changes. Changes that Hank personally brought about when he had negotiated Belvaille's status with the Navy.

As Hank contemplates whether he can survive in this increasingly hostile environment, he realizes that things aren't as bad as they seem - they are quite a bit worse. The constant power plays among corporations might have further reach than just the alleys of a backwater space station at the edge of the galaxy.

I love the narration of these books. It really adds to the overall simpleness of Hanks character. I preferred the first book but will definitely be continuing listening to the series.

This was a perfectly enjoyable story. The plot makes sense and is actually a bit more linear than in the first book. Hank is still a fun character although the loss of the gang war olden timey feel of book 1 was a shame. If you liked book 1 then you'll probably like this though.

I will say that the narration was sub-optimal. Hank's voice is very loud and shouty which is good for the character but then all the other characters are comparatively quiet and I spent a lot of time adjusting the volume and replaying so I could both hear the other characters and not get tinnitus from Hank. I didn't like the eccentric pronounciation of the chapter names either.

Decent book but narration was iffy

Fun enough listen but not overly exciting, not overly funny…. Just fine. I didn’t feel the need to quit and just delete the book without finishing, but I was sort of like “isn’t this over yet” near the end, it might be setting up for a bigger story in the next book but I don’t feel too inclined to listen to it

Very sameish
