Summary
The unabridged, digital audiobook edition of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Mercy, Scandinavia’s new bestselling crime phenomenon.
Read by the actor Steven Pacey. At first the prisoner scratches at the walls until her fingers bleed. But there is no escaping the room. With no way of measuring time, her days, weeks, months go unrecorded. She vows not to go mad. She will not give her captors the satisfaction. She will die first. Copenhagen detective Carl has been taken off homicide to run a newly created department for unsolved crimes. His first case concerns Merete Lynggaard, who vanished five years ago. Everyone says she's dead. Everyone says it’s a waste of time. He thinks they’re right.
The voice in the dark is distorted, harsh and without mercy. It says the prisoner’s torture will only end when she answers one simple question. It is one she has asked herself a million times: WHY is this happening?

Gripping and fast paced
What did you like most about Mercy?
The mixture of characters were interesting and great story line. Would like to see more from this author
What did you like best about this story?
I listen to audio books on the long drive to work so have listened to a large number of books, but this book kept me enthralled and I couldn't stop listening until the end! Fast paced and nail biting!
Any additional comments?
Would highly recommend.

Really very good , but .
What did you like most about Mercy?
The idea , the plot and the pace .
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Of course , the end .
Any additional comments?
I have said very good , but , the but is a personal one , I would have given five stars across the board except for the unneccersery use of swear words , the use of which is usually given as , " to bring authenticity to the story " , but , that excuse doesn't work here when you take into account that this all takes place in Denmark , yet it's narrator has used all sorts of UK provincial accents for the characters , I've had many Scandinavian novels and for me they come across much better with accents of the region or completely neutral . If you can get along with these points then buy it and enjoy .

Perfect Scandi Noir! Exciting, funny, excellent!
After Henning Mankel, these books are my favourite Scandi Noir. The reading performance is excellent, stories are exciting and full of suspense, intelligently written without too many graphic details. The relationships of the main characters are well developed and "real".

Solid Story
Loved it! Story makes sense. Carl is a believable charakter. His assistant, however, sounds like an Indian - not like Iraki or Syrian. Too bad that nothing happened with Carl's love life.

Thoroughly enjoyable
I’ve never written a review before but keep meaning to start. This being my 600th audiobook in two and half years I thought it was time I did! I do like this genre and while I enjoy the likes of Harry “Hula” ( I have his new book ready to listen to), William Wisting etc I’m enjoying this series immensely (I’ve just started listening to book 3). There’s a bit of everything, the procedural aspects, the crimes themselves, the tragedy of life are all present but something others lack is humour and this has it in abundance. You might expect that to detract from the seriousness but it really doesn’t, I feel it adds depth and I find myself smiling or even laughing particularly as the characters have developed. This is one of those series for which I’ll be sad to reach the end.
I love the relationship between Carl and Assad “then”, you’ll understand that once you’ve listened. In fact I will confess to being a little bit in love with Carl.
I think the narrator, Steven Pacey is perfect for the series ( I’m disappointed to see that one of the later books has a different narrator but I’m sure it will still be enjoyable I just hope the Carl and Assad I know and love won’t change too much). Simply put, I found it thoroughly enjoyable and a surprise find.

Thrilling
Found this a little slow initially, but it quickly became fast paced and addictive. It does fall back on some standard detective tropes (the main character has a problem with authority, is a bit of a renegade but ultimately very talented etc), but this doesn't detract from a compelling plot and clever narrative structure that keeps you listening until the end.
