Summary

Darkness falls.... Despair abounds.... Evil reigns….

Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix, cruel ruler of the Empire. Now Eragon must travel to Ellesméra, land of the elves, for further training in magic and swordsmanship, the vital skills of the Dragon Rider. It is the journey of a lifetime, filled with awe-inspiring new places and people, each day a fresh adventure. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and Eragon isn't sure whom he can trust.

Meanwhile, his cousin Roran must fight a new battle back home in Carvahall - one that puts Eragon in even graver danger.

Will the king's dark hand strangle all resistance? Eragon may not escape with even his life....

Best Narrator

I first accidentally downloaded the other version of this book, read by someone other than Gerard Doyle, glad I came back to this one. His delivery draws you in and I can now imagine no other voice reading this series.

Not my favourite, but still enjoyable

What made the experience of listening to Eldest: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 2 - Part 1 the most enjoyable?

It's a long book so being able to listen to it in the car in installments made it more manageable.

What did you like best about this story?

The setting - elves, dwarves, dragons....

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I couldn't stand the voice he used for Saphira the dragon. She is a "she" but he gave her a horrible deep growly voice. Not good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it's too long.

Any additional comments?

The level of detail and description is huge. I confess I got a little bored at times and wanted the story to move on. Maybe I should have chosen an abridged version.

Not disappointed

Once again, Gerrard Doyle has brought this book to life. His symmetry of the characters was amazing. Really looking forward to the final book.
